In this article we take a look at the Fantasy EFL top picks for Gameweek 20. We bring in our expert and regular Fantasy EFL contributor @FPLEdgeworth to reveal two of his best players in each position ahead of the new round.
Our Fantasy EFL Fantasy top picks for Gameweek 20 can be hugely beneficial for fantasy managers. Knowing who the best players to own in each position and top two teams to target are could help you beat your mini-league rivals and secure a good rank.
Goalkeepers – Illan Meslier – Leeds United
A Leeds United player opens up this week’s, Meslier. Although they haven’t kept a clean sheet in the last two, so far this season Leeds have managed a huge 11 in 21 games, which is just over one every two games. Oxford United at home lays ahead, a team that haven’t scored away in their last four games.
Connor Ripley – Port Vale
Next up is Ripley, who shined last week with an impressive 11-point return. This week Port Vale meet with Carlisle, who are the second-lowest scorers in League Two whilst also sitting at the bottom of the table. Taking all of that into consideration, Ripley should have a good chance of repeating last week’s point haul.
Defenders – Max Cleworth – Wrexham
One of last week’s highest-owned players returns in Cleworth. The Welshman has managed five or more points in each of his last five games. This week sees him clash with Bristol Rovers, who haven’t scored in any of their previous three matches. With four goals and one assist already this season, Cleworth goes into the outing with multiple routes to points.
Mickey Demetriou – Crewe Alexandra
The highest-scoring defender in the game, Demetriou, is my second defender pick. He plays in the defence which has conceded the joint second lowest amount of goals in League Two. Colchester, who he faces next, have failed to score in two of their last three league games, showing huge bluntness in front of goal.
Midfielders – Finn Azaz – Middlesbrough
Sitting as the highest-scoring midfielder in the game is Azaz, who produced three double-digit hauls in a row between Gameweek 13-16. Plymouth up next could be a perfect team for Azaz to recapture some of his previous against. Struggling massively as of late, Plymouth have conceded two or more goals in their last five games, highlighting them as a team to target.
Gustavo Hamer – Sheffield United
One of Sheffield United’s key players is up next in Hamer. Recent form shows the midfielder is the midst of a purple patch – bagging six or more points in all of his last five games. Cardiff are up next for the Blades, and the Welsh side have conceded 12 goals in their last five league games, averaging two a game.
Forwards – Jay Stansfield – Birmingham City
Incoming is League One’s most expensive signing ever, Jay Stansfield. The Birmingham striker is one of the most in-form players in the EFL, with six goals in his last six games. This week he clashes with Crawley, a team that have just shipped four goals in their most recent game.
Matt Stevens – AFC Wimbledon
League Two’s current top goal scorer is up next, Mathew Stevens. Stevens has scored in each of his last four games, and this week Wimbledon play Chesterfield away from home, where they have scored 10 goals in their last four away games. Amongst those goals was Stevens who netted four and created an assist.
Teams to Target
- Middlesbrough – Most weeks the aim is to target whoever is playing Plymouth. This is because they have won just once in their last 10 games. This week is no different, especially with Middlesbrough away from home next. Picking Middlesborough away from home also allows for additional points if successful.
- Wrexham – A team some managers may have picked multiple times so far, and in that case, would be an easy avoid. But, if you have only selected them once, you should be looking to target them this week as they play Bristol Rovers. As previously mentioned, Rovers haven’t scored in their last three games, which could play into the hands of the Welsh side. If successful, Wrexham could also gain from the away scoring.
