Our Fantasy EFL Fantasy top picks for Gameweek 2 can be hugely beneficial for fantasy managers. Knowing who the best players to own in each position and top two teams to target are could help you beat your mini-league rivals and secure a good rank.
Goalkeepers – Seny Dieng – Middlesbrough FC
Dieng managed a respectable seven points last week as he managed a clean sheet against Swansea at home. This week Middlesbrough come up against newly promoted Derby, who lost 4-2 against last season strugglers Blackburn, so Middlesbrough should win and hopefully keep another clean sheet.
Teddy Sharman-Lowe – Doncaster Rovers
Doncaster currently sit top of League Two after a great performance in Gameweek 1. They also kept a clean sheet against fellow League Two side Salford in the Carabao Cup midweek. This time around Doncaster are against Newport who haven’t won a League Two match in their last nine games. Doncaster are very likely to win and should hopefully get another clean sheet in the round ahead.
Defenders – Vitinho – Burnley FC
Vitinho managed an impressive 13 points last week after scoring and picking up defensive points. Also, more importantly, he is an out-of-position player who is categorised as a defender but is actually playing right wing. This week Burnley are against Cardiff who failed to score against Sunderland, so alongside a clean sheet, Vitinho could get another attacking return.
Luke Ayling – Middlesbrough FC
Ayling was another successful defender last week after racking up 11 points. As well as the clean sheet he also got four defensive stat points from five clearances and six tackles. This week Middlesbrough are against newly promoted Derby so Ayling has an opportunity to keep another clean sheet, bag more defensive points and even pick up an attacking return.
Midfielders – Luke Molyneux – Doncaster Rovers
Molyneux banked an unbelievable 19 points last week after scoring two goals and registering one assist. He also scored off the bench in the Carabao Cup against fellow League Two team Salford midweek. This week Doncaster are up against Newport, who have lost five of their last six matches and shipped a huge 14 goals. With that in mind Molyneux, who is in fine form, could carry on where he left off.
Sammie Szmodics – Blackburn Rovers
Szmodics was another hit last week. He managed 10 points due to his goal and assist off the bench, and he did this all in 25 minutes. Szmodics also scored two goals in the Carabao Cup during midweek too. This week Blackburn are against Norwich, who didn’t just lose to newly promoted Oxford 2-0 on the weekend but also conceded three goals to League One side Stevenage during the week in the Cup.
Forwards – Alfie May – Birmingham City
May produced a decent nine points last week due to his goal. The goal he scored was also a penalty which confirms he will be taking them. Birmingham have a meeting against Wycombe this week and after shipping three goals to Wrexham in the first round they appear to be a team to target.
Óscar Estupiñán – Hull City
Another player who put a penalty away on the weekend was Estupiñán who picked up eight points. Knowing he takes penalties gives him an advantage over other attackers of course. This week however Hull also face Plymouth, the same side who lost 4-0 to Sheffield Wednesday in Gameweek 1. If they repeat that performance, Estupiñán will likely be amongst the returns.
Teams to Win
Doncaster Rovers – Doncaster picked up seven points in Fantasy EFL last week after beating Accrington 4-1 at home. In the Carabao Cup, they also beat League Two team Salford away from home. Doncaster have another fantastic fixture this week against Newport and as Doncaster are unbeaten in their last 13 League Two league matches this game appears to be going one way only.
Hull City – Hull City were poor at home last week against Bristol City. But, the Tigers have a good opportunity to make up for that as that as they face off with Plymouth, who lost 4-0 away against Sheffield Wednesday. If they repeat a similar performance against Hull, the only team winning will be the away team.
