Notes

  • Between the sticks I have gone with Illan Meslier of Leeds United. Meslier has already managed 14 clean sheets for Leeds this season. This week they play both of their games at home against Norwich and Sheffield Wednesday. So, I expect at least one clean sheet, maybe two.
  • In defence, and currently my captain is Harrogate Town’ Anthony O’Connor (C). He has been very impressive in terms of clearance numbers, averaging 11.5 a game. That could continue against Cheltenham and Colchester this week.
  • Will Aimson (VC) also makes my team. The Wigan defender has helped his defence keep 10 clean sheets thus far. Stevenage and Burton, lay ahead, the two lowest-scoring teams in League One. He has also averaged three points per match in his last five from clearances, which could continue in the round ahead.
  • I have selected three defenders this week, and my third defender is Conrad Egan-Riley. He plays for a Burnley defence which has kept the most clean sheets in the Championship this season, with 17. They play Sunderland at home and Plymouth away, which could see Burnley add to their season tally.
  • In midfield I have opted for Shea Charles of Sheffield Wednesday. Charles gets a large amount of his points from interceptions. He has also registered three assists in his previous five matches, which allows for multiple routes to points. With Leeds and Bristol City, there’s a good chance for lots of interceptions, as Leeds produce the most passes in the Championship.
  • Derby County’ Ebou Adams specialises in producing interceptions is Derby midfielder Adams, who currently has the second most in the Championship this season. He has also scored three goals in his last seven, so with two home matches, he goes into the clash with multiple routes to points.
  • Miles Leaburn of Charlton Athletic is my only forward this week. Leaburn is in great current form – hitting four goals and two assists in his previous five games. Although struggling for game time this season, his form should mean a guaranteed place for at least the next two games.
  • This week I have decided to pick QPR, who play both Plymouth and Hull this week. Both sides are in the relegation zone of the Championship. So, QPR have two great opportunities away from home.
  • Sheffield United are my other team, as they play Norwich and Swansea, two sides the Blades must beat if they want to gain automatic promotion. The Blades have been out of form recently, but with their fixtures ahead, I expect that to change.
