Team Reveal
This is the perfect week to back differentials with a clear template emerging, and I’m likely to make tweaks right up until the deadlines, if there are any postponements – let’s hope not!
GOALKEEPER
In goal, I’m convinced Ben Amos of Port Vale is a great option. The 34-year-old has played the last two games, replacing Connor Ripley, scoring nine and four points for his efforts despite only keeping one clean sheet across the two. Taking on 15th-placed Barrow (H), I expect Vale’s 11th clean sheet this season. However, I will select whoever starts between the sticks.
DEFENDERS
Looking at the upside of differentials, I’m considering Stevenage duo Carl Piergianni and Luther Wildin. Piergianni is the second-highest [active] scoring player in the game this week with 164 points, and is a contributions magnet. Whereas, Wildin has only 0.1% ownership despite having three consecutive double-digit hauls, scoring 130 points total. Facing bottom-placed Burton, I expect a clean sheet at a minimum.
Finally, looking to save one or two spots for midweek games, Blackburn Rovers’ Danny Batth (D) is selected. The centre-back averages 5.8 points and is also a defensive contributor. Taking on Portsmouth (H) who struggle on the road, I expect a clean sheet and returns for Batth.
MIDFIELDERS
Davis Keillor-Dunn of Barnsley smashed it for me last week, and returns to my side. The out-of-position midfielder, playing up front, has four goals in four games, totalling nine goals and two assists in 24, returning 132 points. I expect further returns against Northampton (A).
Pairing him, the double-up with Adams Phillips feels tempting but overkill. As a result, I’m debating between Blackpool’s Lee Evans or MK Dons’ Alex Gilbey, which will likely go to the wire. Evans is due another attacking return against 23rd-placed Cambridge (H), while Gilbey could haul against 24th-placed Carlisle (A).
FORWARD
The standout this week is Nathan Lowe (F) of Walsall, provided he’s still at the club – which I fully expect him to be. The Stoke City loanee has 14 goals and five assists in just 21 games, and is the joint-most productive attacking player across the entire EFL. Facing Tranmere (H), I expect him to extend his impressive form and wears the armband as it stands.
CLUB PICKS
I’m facing a tough decision for my weekend football picks. Barnsley at Northampton, Huddersfield at Shrewsbury, and Crewe at Swindon all seem like strong contenders. I’m committed to selecting two away teams this weekend – it’s all or nothing for GW23!
