In this article we take a look at @LPbroadcasts Fantasy EFL team reveal for Gameweek 17. Our expert shares his team, rationale around each pick and discusses the two teams he is backing to win for the new round.
Our Fantasy EFL team reveal for Gameweek 17 could be very helpful for fantasy managers. Knowing who our expert picks could be extremely enlightening. It could also bring clarity to some of the decisions we have to make in our own teams.
Team Reveal
Goalkeeper
This week I have opted for Colchester United’s Matt Macey. The U’s have a Double Gameweek in store, facing Fleetwood Town (A), followed by Swindon Town (H), meaning double the chance of a clean sheet. Although Fleetwood are unbeaten in three, they have blanked in three of seven matches at Highbury Stadium. Additionally, Swindon are in dismal form despite being free scoring. I expect at least save points from the 30-year-old.
Defenders
Fleetwood’s Carl Johnston is nailed for me and is likely to wear the armband. The out-of-position wing-back is incredibly attacking, with one goal and assist this season, totalling 80 points in Fantasy EFL. The number two has returned in eight consecutive matches and with a good form record against both clubs, including being unbeaten in five against Doncaster Rovers, I’m expecting a haul.
Elsewhere, Sheffield United’s Harry Souttar and Wrexham’s Max Cleworth are both on my list to start. The Blades haven’t conceded in seven games at Bramall Lane, and I envision that record being extended against Sunderland on Friday. Souttar is due a goal, and I can see him scoring the winning goal (too hopeful?) from a corner. Meanwhile, Wrexham are formidable at SToK Cae Ras, keeping four consecutive clean sheets at home. Against struggling Barnsley, another lock seems nailed for Cleworth.
Midfielders
Colchester’s Jack Payne is nailed for me providing he starts Saturday. The number 10 has two goals and six assists in 16, scoring 88 points. I anticipate a 10+ point haul across both games, and expect Payne to return to the starting XI and feature in 90 for both.
Taking my second midfield slot is Peterborough’s Kwame Poku (M). The winger has been one of the best players in League One, scoring 10 and assisting five in 16, totalling 126 points. Facing Burton Albion (H) screams goals for the Posh, who have conceded 29 goals this season.
Forward
It’s always difficult to resist selecting Double Gameweekers, and Ronan Coughlan (F) is the standout. The penalty-taking striker has six goals and one assist in 12, scoring in his two previous matches. I expect at least one goal from the number 14, although missing out some obvious candidates does concern me.
Team Selections
Selecting clubs that Double is proving to be an obvious strategy leading to success in FEFL. Therefore, I’ll back Fleetwood and Colchester – it’s impossible to ignore guaranteed points when they face each other!
Other key targets
Ben Cabango of Swansea is a good option, facing Portsmouth (H), who have struggled on the road in recent weeks. Additionally, leaving out Norwich’s Borja Sainz (F) when they face Luton Town (H) could come back to bite me and can’t be ruled out.
Boro’s star Finn Azaz missed out on Wednesday with illness but will wait for news from Michael Carrick. Finally, Reading’s Lewis Wing and Sam Smith are good options ahead of their fixture against 22nd-placed Cambridge United (H).
