Fantasy EFL Gameweek 5 Top Picks

The Fantasy EFL Gameweek 5 Top Picks are here as managers look to gain an edge early in the season. With form guides beginning to take shape and fixture difficulty becoming clearer, this is the perfect time to target players who can deliver consistent returns.

In this article, @FPLEdgeworth highlights the standout options across all positions and reveals which players are worth backing for GW5.

Goalkeepers

Owen Goodman – Huddersfield Town

Fantasy EFL Gameweek 5 Top Picks

We start this week’s top picks with Owen Goodman, the Huddersfield goalkeeper. He’s been outstanding so far, keeping four clean sheets in five matches. This week he faces Barnsley, a side that has only managed one goal in their last two away games. With Barnsley struggling in front of goal, Goodman has a strong chance of adding another clean sheet to his tally.

Nathan Trott – Cardiff City

Joining him in the goalkeeper picks is Nathan Trott of Cardiff. Since arriving at the club, he has been flawless in the league, recording four clean sheets from four games. Cardiff take on Plymouth this week, a team with just one win all season, giving Trott every opportunity to make it five shutouts in a row.

Defenders

Jack Sanders – Milton Keynes

Fantasy EFL Gameweek 5 Top Picks

Leading the way in defence is Jack Sanders of Milton Keynes, the highest-scoring player in the game so far. After five matches he’s racked up 58 points, and impressively he hasn’t scored fewer than nine points in any single game. Up against Walsall this week, Sanders looks nailed for another big return — a must-own for every FEFL manager.

Adebola Oluwo – Salford City

Next is Adebola Oluwo of Salford, another strong early performer. Despite only one clean sheet so far, he has still scored 44 points in five games, never dropping below five points in a week. That high floor makes him reliable, and with Salford facing a Cheltenham side who have scored just one goal all season, a clean sheet could easily be on the cards.

Midfielders

Sorba Thomas – Stoke City

First up in midfield is Sorba Thomas of Stoke. Across just three matches, he’s already produced 34 points, with his lowest score being a 10-point haul. With attacking returns available from almost every avenue (except interceptions), he’s a consistent threat. Stoke face West Brom this week, who have conceded three goals in three games, giving Thomas another strong platform to deliver.

Scott Twine – Bristol City

Fantasy EFL Gameweek 5 Top Picks

Another standout is Scott Twine of Bristol City, currently the top midfielder for average points per game. He has delivered 39 points across three games, averaging 13 points per match. This week he faces Hull City, who have already conceded five goals this season, making Twine a prime candidate for more attacking returns.

Forwards

Matthew Dennis – Notts County

Leading the forward picks is Matthew Dennis of Notts County, the highest-scoring striker in the game with 44 points. He has only blanked once this season and comes into this fixture with two consecutive double-digit returns. Against Tranmere, who despite a decent start are still prone to conceding, Dennis has a great chance to extend his hot streak.

Omari Patrick – Tranmere Rovers

Fantasy EFL Gameweek 5 Top Picks

Rounding off the forwards is Omari Patrick of Tranmere. He has been his team’s main creative force, helping them score eight goals in four matches. Over that run, Patrick has collected 36 points, and with Tranmere facing Notts County — a side yet to keep a clean sheet this season — he looks set to continue his excellent form.

Teams to Target

Coventry City

Coventry have been electric in attack, scoring 12 goals in just three games while picking up two wins and a draw. Away at Oxford this week, their free-scoring form should continue, making them one of the top teams to target.

Swansea City

Swansea are also worth backing. Despite a mixed start with four points from three games, they now face Sheffield Wednesday, who have taken just one point all season. This looks like a strong opportunity for Swansea to get back on track and benefit from away bonuses.
