Fantasy EFL Best Defenders

In this article we take a look at the Fantasy EFL best defenders. We bring in our expert and regular EFL Fantasy contributor @FPLEdgeworth to pick out five of the best defenders to buy for the 2024/25 EFL Fantasy campaign ahead.

Knowing who the Fantasy EFL best defenders are could be extremely beneficial to managers. Defenders are one of the positions to invest in for the campaign ahead due to the scoring system so picking out the best could give you a massive advantage.

Junior Firpo – Leeds United

Firpo started 19 games last season. When he earned the starting spot, he kept it and got 11 clean sheets. As an attacking full-back, he picked up seven assists, which is almost a return per game on average.

Recent form reinforces that appeal. In fact, not only did Firpo register an assist for his country but he also scored for Leeds in his first pre-season match. So, if he starts, he’s a must-own in a Leeds team going for the title.

Darnell Furlong – West Bromwich Albion

Furlong started 44 games last season in a defensively strong side that earned a massive 16 clean sheets. As an attacking full-back, he also gained a respectable five goals and three assists, and West Brom will be looking to push on from their playoff disappointment last season.

Michal Helik – Huddersfield Town

Moving onto League One now. Although Huddersfield were relegated from the Championship, Helik still had some impressive stats at centre-back with nine goals in 40 starts and 5.6 clearances per 90. His clearance average would guarantee him almost two points per game. He also managed six clean sheets, which will almost certainly rise in the campaign ahead against lesser opposition.

Huddersfield will be looking for immediate promotion which makes Helik even more appealing on a roundly basis this season.

Luke Leahy – Wycombe Wanderers

Note: Pictured for Shrewsbury but now plays for Wycombe Wanderers

Leahy started 41 games last season and played in the upper midtable Wycombe side. He was able to achieve some of the best stats of any full back in the EFL with a mammoth 11 goals, seven assists, and 12 clean sheets to go with that.

With him returning in 73% of his games and with Wycombe aiming for the playoffs, his stats may improve even more.

Mickey Demetriou – Crewe Alexandra

Moving on to the final player of the five picks and the first pick in League Two, Mickey Demetriou. He is our second centre-back also on this list. Demetriou started 45 games last season, scored eight goals and created assists. He also got 14 clean sheets with Playoff Finalists Crewe, who just missed out on promotion and will be looking to go one more.
