Familiar Faces of FPL GW23: Digne transfer highlights a strong week for Jules Breach
A round-up of how well-known FPL personalities have fared this week.
GW23 PROGRESS (SO FAR)
The unfortunate slide of Sophy Ridge continues this Gameweek, amassing just 19 points due to the captaining of Emmanuel Dennis and lack of any defensive of attacking returns bar one Diogo Jota assist. However, should Ben Foster not play against Burnley, the clean sheet of Aaron Ramsdale will come into her team.
Fabio Borges‘ strong run continued with 42 points that currently puts him in the top 3k globally. He somehow had the foresight to purchase Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope before his unexpected clean sheet at Arsenal and he could repeat the trick when they complete their Double Gameweek against Watford. Joining him on 42 points is comedian Jon Richardson, who co-hosts the ‘Comedians Playing FPL’ podcast. Although he sold Antonio Rudiger’s clean sheet as part of a four-point hit, in his place came the ten points of Aymeric Laporte.
TEAM FOCUS: Jules Breach
BT Sport and Premier League presenter Jules Breach is a known FPL servant, having co-hosted the FPL Show for several years. Her five previous ranks have been consistently good – always in the top 500k and only once below 175k, so it’s no surprise to see her currently at 188k and hoping for an ascent having still got her Wildcard, Bench Boost, Triple Captain and two Free Hits to use.
Jules’ season has been steady and Gameweek 23 has been fantastic so far, with her 51 points the most of our selected 22 above. Selling Marcos Alonso for Lucas Digne immediately paid off and Diogo Jota’s assist made him a wonderful captain in comparison to the many who fatally put their armband on Emmanuel Dennis. Her double Arsenal defence brought in 16 points and there is still Josh King to come.
‘Breach for the Stars’ has £7.2m in the bank so it’s likely that she’s planning on a swift Mohamed Salah return. Whether it’s for Jota, Jarrod Bowen, Bernardo Silva or Lucas Moura will be an interesting decision. Elsewhere, the team is very strong. Her defence covers Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joao Cancelo and Arsenal, she has the main attacking options of the moment in Jota, King and double West Ham.
As a cheap fifth defender, Daniel Amartey plays most games due to Leicester’s deep set of defensive injuries, although perhaps a luxury transfer could replace Billy Gilmour for someone like Jacob Ramsey. Bernardo has only been involved in one of Man City’s last 22 goals so Jules may see him as her weak link – either removing him for Salah or a fellow City midfielder.
Good luck for the rest of the season, Jules!
