Expert team thoughts for Matchday 7

Last modified date

The new round of World Cup Fantasy is just around the corner. For that reason, we have brought in Fantasy Football Scout and Fantasy Football Community contributor @FPLReactions (Louis) for his expert team thoughts for Matchday 7.

Looking at expert team thoughts for Matchday 7 can be very helpful to other World Cup Fantasy managers. Looking into the thoughts of @FPLReaction can aid with key factors like transfers, chip strategy and captaincy preparations.

Matchday 6 review

  • We can see that I totalled 69 points this week but did take a minus three hit.
  • I finished Matchday 5 with a rank of 1.5k in the world so I have taken a drop of around 500 places.
  • Overall it was a good Matchday and the biggest successes were nailing the captaincy with Lionel Messi and going big on the France defensive assets.
  • The biggest disappointments came in the midfield with the likes of Luka Modric, Ivan Perisic and Hakim Ziyech all failing to return.
  • It could have been a far better Matchday as prior to Matchday 6, I was debating between Olivier Giroud and Julian Alvarez. Alvarez managed to pick up a huge 14-point haul whereas Giroud returned one point, so it was a 13 point swing.

Notes

  • This is my current set-up for Matchday 7 without any changes.
  • I have six free transfers to navigate the final round.
  • Firstly I would advise not to use any transfers until we see the Croatia v Morocco line-ups. There could be mass rotation between both sides so it would be wise to be patient.
  • I personally think that the Croatia v Morocco game could be where managers can gain rank. For that reason, investing in either or both of these teams could be beneficial.
  • Argentina v France will have plenty of investment, however, I don’t think either side will keep a clean sheet so selling my France/Argentina defenders for Croatia/Morocco defenders could be my priority move.
  • I am yet to decide whether I will go heavy on either the Croatia or Morocco defence but there is opportunity to back both defensive assets if unsure.
  • Captaincy will be important on both days. It is likely that the majority of managers select Ivan Perisic so going against him could be a great move if looking to gain rank.
  • Choosing a captain in the final match could be tough. Half of managers are likely to captain Kylian Mbappe and the other half are likely to captain Lionel Messi so there could be a huge swing selecting either player for captaincy.
  • I will be keeping an eye on the Morocco v Croatia line-ups because they will likely decide my entire game plan for Matchday 7.
