Expert Free Hit for Gameweek 34

In this article we take a look at an expert free hit team for Gameweek 34. We welcome regular contributor and team revealer @dmpwright to reveal his best free hit team as he explains some of the rationale behind his selections.

The huge double ahead could be a perfect time to play the Free Hit. So checking out our hall of of famers Expert Free Hit Team for Gameweek 34 could be extremely beneficial.

Free Hit Team for Gameweek 34

Formation

I’m currently leaning towards 3-5-2 over 3-4-3 on the Free Hit. I also don’t think it’s worth taking any SGW players if you’re playing your Free Hit this week and would select a full squad of doublers in order to fully attack the fixtures.

Goalkeepers

In isolation, Alisson Becker and David Raya are probably the best goalkeeper options going into DGW34. However, I will likely triple up on outfield players from Liverpool and Arsenal, leaving Neto and Jordan Pickford as the next-best options, with the England number one just shading it in my eyes. Crystal Palace should fare well in their two home games, so Dean Henderson is also a reasonable option.

Defenders

In defence, it’s a good idea to have at least one Liverpool and one Arsenal defender. Virgil Van Dijk and Gabriel are my preferred options as things stand, in part due to their set piece threat.

Trent Alexander-Arnold also appeals, particularly as most managers not playing their Free Hit will struggle to get him in without taking hits and/or making sacrifices elsewhere. If he’s fit and available to start then I’d recommend taking him – If Trent looks unlikely to play both of Liverpool’s games in DGW34 then I would probably pivot to Daniel Muñoz.

Consider the likes of Rayan Aït-Nouri (if fit), Jarrad Branthwaite/Vitaly Mykolenko and Marcos Senesi for your bench.

Midfielders

In midfield, Bukayo Saka and Mohamed Salah are no-brainers. Salah is still the clear choice for captain this week despite Liverpool’s struggles in front of goal.

Kai Havertz – who has recorded five goals and six assists since GW23 – is another play I like. Martin Ødegaard is a good alternative if you want absolute security of starts/minutes. Although, it should be noted that Havertz has started the last 10 Premier League games and has played 70+ minutes in all but one of them.

Darwin Nuñez hasn’t exactly lit things up in Diogo Jota’s absence (recording only two goals and two assists in that time) and, with the Portuguese back in contention after injury, I probably wouldn’t select Nuñez on Free Hit. For that reason, I’d consider Luis Díaz as your third Liverpool player if Trent doesn’t make the cut.

Crystal Palace have the fixtures to do well this week, so I’d probably take one of Eberechi Eze or Michael Olise in the last midfield slot, with Eze edging it for me.

Ben Brereton Díaz faces two of the worst teams in the league for xGA if you want a differential. Although, Manchester United at Old Trafford could be a difficult prospect for Sheffield United.

Forwards

Upfront, Matheus Cunha, Jean-Philippe Mateta and Dominic Solanke are the standout forward options. Cunha and Solanke are my preferred starters if playing 3-5-2 – I don’t see many other viable forward options outside of those three.

As mentioned, I wouldn’t select Nuñez due to risk of rotation and I don’t see enough upside in taking someone like Gabriel Jesus.
