EURO Fantasy Experts Ahead of the Matchday 2

We bring in the EURO Fantasy experts ahead of Matchday 2. It has been a whirlwind Matchday 1 with lots of shocks and surprises of which some of the best managers and biggest personalities in the EURO Fantasy community have reacted to. They also highlight players, teams and chips looking ahead.

Catching up with some EURO Fantasy experts ahead of Matchday 2 could be hugely beneficial for fantasy managers. From them we can emphasise some of the best and worst performances which can then have an effect on future planning.

@FplToni

We saw an interesting opening match between Germany and Scotland which ended in a 5-1 thumping from the hosts. Amongst the goals was midfielder Jamal Musiala (€8.5m) who collected a huge 12 points after scoring and picking up the player of the match award.

However, the biggest debate, as highlighted by Toni, was if sticking with midfielder and goal scorer Florian Wirtz (€7.5m) who racked up 10 points as captain was worth it, or if we should twist to another player.

Germany face an underwhelming Hungary in Matchday 2 so buying into the Germany attack could be a priority for non-owners ahead of the new round.

@Linn_FPL

Another route to points in EURO Fantasy is of course ball recoveries. Linn was on ball recovery watch this week and several players managed to produce a fair amount.

Germany went into their first game as favourites which meant they were also likely to keep the clean sheet. Whilst the Germany defenders looked set for big returns for most of the match an own goal by defender Antonio Rudiger (€5.5m) disappointed Maximilian Mittelstädt (€4m) and Jonathan Tah (€4.5m) owners.

Those with the Germany double up at the back could even be tempted to move one on with Hungary ahead in Matchday 2.

@FPLReaction

Hungary v Switzerland was another heavily anticipated fixture in Matchday 1. Many backed Swiss midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri (€6.5m), unfortunately however he failed to feature completely which is obviously a concern, even with Scotland next up.

Another popular asset who many captained was Hungary midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai (€7m). As Louis highlights below, Hungary were poor but Szoboszlai still collected five points after creating an assist.

With Germany next up Szoboszlai owners may have a big decision to make, hope that Hungary improve against the hosts or ditch Szoboszlai for a better option.

@FPLMarcin

For many, Italy were a last beacon of hope after a sub-par Saturday. Many felt that Italy were bankers against Albania for the clean the sheet but that wasn’t the case. Albania struck in the first 30 seconds which ended up being the quickest goal in EURO’s final history.

Federico Dimarco (€5m) was one of the highest selected defenders in the game ahead of the round. For many Dimarco had both clean sheet and attacking potential but he failed at both ends of the pitch. In fact, Dimarco humorously assisted the Albania goal, or at least that is how many owners saw it.

With Spain next up, Dimarco could well be a top transfer out ahead of the Matchday 2 deadline.

@FPL__Fran

Fran was one of many managers hooked by the Spain v Croatia game. Spain blitzed their way to a 3-0 win over their opposition, and as highlighted by Fran, it wasn’t short of drama either. Goalkeeper Unai Simon (€5.5m) hit one of the biggest returns of the round with 12 points due to his penalty save and clean sheet.

Midfielder Fabian Ruiz (€6.5m) collected the biggest return of the game due to a goal, an assist and a player of the match award which resulted in a 15-point haul.

A player who was not amongst the returns was Spain defender Alejandro Grimaldo (€5m) who failed to start the game. Owners will almost certainly be looking to move him on with a fixture against Italy next up.
