EURO 2024 Fantasy Switzerland Top Picks

In this article we take a look at the EURO 2024 Fantasy Switzerland top picks. Here we touch upon the recent form of Switzerland, how they achieved qualification, highlight their best picks, and anything else of relevance.

Our EURO 2024 Fantasy Switzerland top picks could be crucial for managers. Knowing how a team has been performing recently can be helpful. But, knowing who the best picks from each team can be essential for the tournament ahead.

The most recent World Cup was a reasonable one for Switzerland. They battled against the likes of Brazil, Cameroon and Serbia to claim second place, only short of first place via a head-to-head record. In the four matches they did play they scored an average of 1.2 goals per game and kept just one clean sheet.

Switzerland’ World Cup journey ended in the following round when they were humiliated in a 6-1 loss at the hands of Portugal.

When it came to their EURO Qualifying Group (as pictured below), we can see that Switzerland secured second place, five points behind Romania and just two points ahead of Israel.

During the Qualifiers their record consisted of six wins, four draws and just one loss. Statistically they also averaged 1.6 goals scored per game, six clean sheets and 0.5 goals conceded per game.

Recent results have however been concerning for Switzerland. In fact, when looking at their last 10 matches in all competitions they won three, drew six and lost once.

EURO 2024 Fixtures

Switzerland begin their journey against a Hungary side whom are unbeaten since 2022. Hungary also sustained close to two goals scored per game in the Qualifying round.

They then face a meeting with Scotland. Although impressive in Qualifying, Scotland lost five of their last seven matches and failed to win any.

Switzerland then clash with hosts Germany. Germany go into the competitions as one of several favourites so it could be a tough game to get a result from.

Top Picks – Fabian Schär

For those looking for a good defensive asset then Switzerland offer up several recognisable names. Whilst Manchester City centre-back Manuel Akanji (€5m) and Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer (€5m) have had success seasons with their clubs, their price-tag is off-putting when compared to their teammates.

One of the teammates mentioned above is centre-back Fabian Schar who comes in at just €4.5m. Although his Newcastle side were short of their domestic targets this season Schar can be a huge goal threat in the oppositions box.

To reinforce the above, in his 22/23 Premier League season Schar had more attempts on goal than any other defender in the division. It also helps that he has maintained a ball recovery rate of 4.8 per game this season.

Ricardo Rodríguez

Switzerland like to use a back-three system which allows their wing-backs into some incredibly attacking positions on the pitch. One player who could benefit from that is the experienced Ricardo Rodríguez (€4.5m).

Ricardo Rodríguez clearly knows how to defend after helping club side Torino collect a huge 18 clean sheets in Serie A this season. As well defensive potential the wing-back bagged a goal and two assists in the same campaign.

Penalty duty is also under the microscope at the moment. The original penalty taker was Ricardo Rodríguez. However, after recent misses that role would well switch to another player, or not.

Granit Xhaka

Switzerland have lots of potential for goals judging by their oppositions recent defensive records. One of few options we could look to is midfielder Granit Xhaka (€6m). After moving from Arsenal Xhaka played a vital role in Bayer Leverkusen’ historic unbeaten league run.

Although a central midfielder Xhaka has proven to have plenty of attacking potential – hitting two goals and two assists in 10 EURO Qualifying matches. The Switzerland captain also sustained a whopping 7.1 ball recoveries per game during that same campaign – which was one of the highest across the Qualifying round.

Completing Xhaka’ appeal for country is the fact he also takes some corners and some free kicks, giving him multiple routes to points. As captain he could even have a hand in taking penalties after recent misses from teammate Ricardo Rodríguez.

Xherdan Shaqiri

A more direct route into the Switzerland attack is of course midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri (€6.5m). Shaqiri has become an important cog in the Swiss attack throughout his long international career. And they will call on him once again.

For MLS club Chicago Fire Shaqiri has maintained some attacking output – hitting just two goals and one assist in 12 games this season. However, for country his output seems to improve, as seen with an impressive two goals and three assists in his seven EURO Qualifying matches.

Shaqiri could also place himself into the penalty conversation after recently converting one for Chicago Fire. With all of the above in mind, Shaqiri eases into the Switzerland Top Picks.

One to Watch

Several players could be worth keeping an eye on – players like midfielder Ruben Vargas (€6m) who managed three goals and one assist in nine Qualifying matches.

However, the striker slot is one we should monitor. The injury plagued Breel Embolo (€6.5m) could be a major loss to Switzerland if he can’t fully recover. But if absent, it could open up a spot for new Milan signing and former Salzburg man Noah Okafor (€6.5m).

Okafor starred for Salzburg in his 22/23 Champions League campaign – netting three times in just six matches. That performance gave Milan the motivation to sign him for the season following. Although becoming a feature player in his first Serie A season, Okafor still collected six goals and two assists.
