Switzerland Predicted Line-up
Note: This line-up will be updated after the friendlies ahead.
Formation: Although utilising a 4-3-3 formation during the EURO 2024, recent friendlies suggest Switzerland could use a 3-5-2 formation as presented above.
Goalkeeper
Yann Sommer (€5m) has been excellent during his his Serie A title winning season for Inter. Sommer has been first choice for some years now and only injury is likely to change that.
Defenders
Three centre-backs complete the back three for Switzerland, one of them being Manchester City man Manuel Akanji (€5m). The remaining two consist of Nico Elvedi (€5m) who started seven of his sides EURO Qualifiers and Newcastle centre-back Fabian Schar (€4.5m).
Playing at left-wing back is Ricardo Rodríguez (€4.5m) who helped his Torino side secure 18 clean sheets in Serie A last season. On the other flank should be Silvan Widmer (€4.5m) who scored in a recent qualifier.
Midfielders
Stapled into central midfield is of course Granit Xhaka (€6m). The Swiss captain helped his Bayer Leverkusen side remain unbeaten during the 23/24 Bundesliga campaign.
Joining Xhaka is Remo Freuler (€5.5m) who started nine of their 10 EURO Qualifying matches. From that he looks cemented in the team.
Xherdan Shaqiri (€6.5m) may have fallen off in terms of domestic form but his two goals and three assists in qualifying makes him a shoo-in in attack.
Ruben Vargas (€6m) should play out of position in attack. Vargas started nine Qualifiers, scored three goals and produced one assist.
Forward
At the time of writing main man Breel Embolo (€6.5m) is recovering from injury, so in the meantime Milan based attacker Noah Okafor (€6.5m) will likely step up.
Note: If Switzerland revert to their EURO Qualifying 4-3-3 formation, we could see Fabian Schar sacrificed to allow Denis Zakaria (€5m) into a central midfield position.
