EURO 2024 Fantasy: Slovenia top picks
In this article, we take a look at the top Slovenia picks for Euro 2024 Fantasy. It takes into account player form, the nation’s recent results, how they achieved qualification and anything else of relevance.
Knowing who’s likely to start could be hugely beneficial to Fantasy managers, as Slovenia have the potential to surprise everyone in this tournament.
RECENT TIMES
Alongside finishing third in a tricky Nations League group, Slovenia did well to be one of two runners-up to accumulate 22 points during qualifying.
By staving off Finland and Kazakhstan, they’ll be at their fourth-ever major international tournament after Euro 2000 and the World Cups of 2002 and 2010. The latter had current coach Matjaz Kek in the dugout, who is back after spells in charge of Al-Ittihad and Rijeka.
Recent friendlies brought mixed results. An under-par 2-2 draw with Malta was quickly followed by an impressive 2-0 win over a strong Portugal XI. Their final warm-up games are at home to Armenia and Bulgaria.
FIXTURES
This summer is all about reunions. Similarly to France versus Netherlands in Group D, there’ll be a quick rematch with Denmark after a draw and defeat in qualifying.
Game number two is against Serbia – another side who’ll be in their first Euros since 2000. Back then, a Charleroi classic saw Slovenia go three goals up but still get pegged back to 3-3.
Lastly, a tough encounter with World Cup 2010 opponents England.
- 16 June: Denmark (Stuttgart)
- 20 June: Serbia (Munich)
- 25 June: England (Cologne)
TOP PICKS
Benjamin Sesko (€7.0m)
Repeatedly linked with a big Premier League move, it certainly seems like Sesko will soon be part of FPL. The 6ft 5in forward has just turned 21 but is already a big player for RB Leipzig, grabbing 18 goals in all 2023/24 competitions. Two of these were in the Champions League.
On penalties, he also netted five times during Slovenia’s road to Germany. For those Euro 2024 Fantasy managers not wanting a forward line full of big-money assets, Sesko is an intriguing differential.
Jan Oblak (€5.0m)
Meanwhile, they possess a genuine world-class player in goalkeeper Oblak. The Atletico Madrid stopper gets to finally appear for his country in a major tournament.
Fantasy ownership is currently low, as Slovenia aren’t backed to get out of Group C. But their captain could showcase his true quality by racking up saves and possibly even a clean sheet.
Adam Cerin (€5.0m)
Elsewhere, box-to-box midfielder Cerin is one of three Panathinaikos players to make Slovenia’s preliminary squad. He’s stepped up to become a vital part of Kek’s plans, playing every minute of qualifying whilst producing one goal and three assists.
As the 24-year-old is on a big share of set-pieces, he could be a very handy cheap enabler. With Fantasy rules allowing constant line-up switches, he’ll either deliver a handy return or make way for the next day’s assets.
ONE TO WATCH
Andraz Sporar (€6.0m)
If you want an even cheaper forward, Sesko’s strike partner Sporar is another part of the Panathinaikos contingent. He moved to Greece after a loan spell at Middlesbrough, bagging eight goals in 2021/22.
Furthermore, his place in Kek’s 4-4-2 isn’t in doubt, especially after scoring three times in qualifying and setting up another three.
