EURO 2024 Fantasy Scotland Top Picks

In this article we take a look at the EURO 2024 Fantasy Scotland top picks. Here we touch upon the recent form of Scotland, how they achieved qualification, highlight their best picks, and anything else of relevance.

Our EURO 2024 Fantasy Scotland top picks could be crucial for managers. Knowing how a team has been performing recently can be helpful. But, knowing who the best picks from each team can be essential for the tournament ahead.

Scotland’ recent resurgence on the international stage started around the time of the 2022-2024 Nations league campaign. There they won four of their six matches against the likes of Ukraine and Ireland to secure promotion from Group B up to Group A.

That success continued in their recent European Qualifiers where they won five, drew two and lost just once as we can below. Their biggest achievement, or at least to many fans, was their 2-0 win against Spain at home.

The form they maintained for most of 2023 disintegrated towards the end of the year however. In fact Scotland have failed to win any of their seven matches, be that friendly or Qualifier. 19 goals conceded and just seven scored in the same period have become cause for concern.

Fixtures

Scotland’ EURO 2024 campaign begins with a battle against the hosts Germany. Although likely to prove tough opposition Germany have also been inconsistent as of late – losing two and winning two of their last five matches.

They then go onto face Switzerland in Matchday 1 and Hungary in Matchday 2 which could be better opportunities to invest in their assets.

Top Picks – Andy Robertson

For managers looking for a cheaper option into the questionable Scottish defence then you could opt for goalkeeper Angus Gunn (€4.5m) or centre-back Ryan Porteous (€4.5m) who scored a goal in recent Qualifiers.

However, for those looking for a more explosive defensive pick then Andy Robertson (€5.5m) stands out. Although more expensive than the other options mentioned, the Liverpool full-back plays in a right wing-back role for Scotland, giving him a more advanced position and thus a better chance of picking up an attacking return.

Robertson collected three goals and two assists in his recent Premier League campaign and we saw that same attacking threat in the two assists he created during the Qualifiers. With that and the addition of some corners, Robertson stands out as their best defensive option.

John McGinn

17 goals against the likes of Spain and Norway is no easy feat. Their Qualifying form should not go unnoticed, especially as they come up against three questionable defences in EURO 2024.

One of two standout attacking options is midfielder John McGinn (€6.5m). Domestically McGinn helped lead his Aston Villa side to secure Champions League football in 24/25 with six goals and four assists.

But, for country he seems to be even more prolific. In fact, McGinn collected two goals and two assists in in six of his sides Nations League campaign matches and three goal and two assists in just eight EURO Qualifying matches.

As well as maintaining a 4.5 ball recovery rate in that same Qualifying period, McGinn also has corners, free kicks and penalties at his disposal.

Scott McTominay

Scott McTominay (€6.5m) also wasn’t short of success as he contributed towards Manchester United’ FA Cup win against Manchester City. He also managed seven goals and one assist in the Premier League for the Reds.

Similar to McGinn, McTominay seems to offer a lot more offensively when playing for his country. Although quiet in the Nations League McTominay more than made up for it after bagging a huge seven goals and one assist in just eight EURO Qualifiers.

McGinn also takes a share in some set pieces which boosts his appeal, along with the fact he sustained a 4.8 average of ball recoveries in the EURO Qualifiers.

One to Watch

Leading the Scotland frontline is striker Che Adams. Cheap players could be vital in the game and at €5.5m Adams offers exactly that.

As well as securing promotion to the Premier League in the Championship play-offs, Adams hit 16 goals and four assists along the way.

With the creativity of McGinn and McTominay behind him, the Southampton attacker could well kick start his Scotland career with a bang.
