EURO 2024 Fantasy Hungary Top Picks

In this article we take a look at the EURO 2024 Fantasy Hungary top picks. Here we touch upon the recent form of Hungary, how they achieved qualification, highlight their best picks, and anything else of relevance.

Our EURO 2024 Fantasy Hungary top picks could be crucial for managers. Knowing how a team has been performing recently can be helpful. But, knowing who the best picks from each team can be essential for the tournament ahead.

2020 seemed to be a significant turning point in Hungary’ international footballing status. Not only did they go on an 11-match unbeaten run but they also gained promotion from the Nations League. During the latter they managed to edge first place and do it ahead of respected teams like Russia, Serbia and Türkiye.

The promotion noted above placed them with international giants like Italy, Germany and England. Many expected their run to end there, but with back-to-back wins against England and second place confirmation, the negative rhetoric continued to dwindle.

If the above wasn’t enough to convince football fans that Hungary weren’t a team to underestimate then their recent EURO Qualifiers should be. We can see below that Hungary topped their Group with five wins, three draws and zero losses.

Fixtures

Hungary’ EURO 2024 journey starts with a fixture against a Switzerland side whom have won just three of their last 10 matches in all competitions.

They then go onto face the hosts Germany, which could be tough. However, as we have already seen, Hungary appear to perform well against the ‘favourites’.

The Hungarians then go onto face Scotland who although strong in their EURO Qualifying Group, are winless in their last seven matches.

Top Picks – Ádám Lang

Hungary are a mixed bag at the back. Although conceding less than one goal per game on average in both of their recent international campaigns, they kept just three clean sheets in their eight Qualifiers. It could be worth highlighting however that they have kept two consecutive clean sheets in their last two friendly matches.

There are some question marks around who will start between the sticks as both Peter Gulacsi (€4.5m) and Denes Dibusz (€4m) could play. For that reason, and taking into account price, centre-back Ádám Lang (€4m) could be the standout pick. Lang has been a mainstay in the Hungary line-up – starting seven of their eight Qualifiers and all six of the recent and successful Nations League campaign.

Lang created an assist in his last friendly for Hungary but he also sustained an impressive 5.8 ball recoveries per game during the Qualifiers.

Some may even be tempted by wing-back Milos Kerkez (€4.5m) of Bournemouth. However, based on his lack of output there is nothing to suggest he would be worth the extra €0.5m.

Dominik Szoboszlai

A lot of Hungary’ fantastic performances are mostly due to their firing frontline. They managed to rack up 16 goals in their Qualifying stage which meant an average of two goals scored per game.

The most influential player in the side is of course midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai (€7m). A good example of this is the fact he takes corners, free kicks and penalties for his side.

For Liverpool, Dominik Szoboszlai mustered up just three goals and two assists in his 23/24 Premier League season. This was mostly due to his deeper position. Playing more advanced for Hungary is appealing and his output increases there as well. In fact in his recent EURO Qualifying games he produced four goals and three assists in eight matches.

Barnabás Varga

Another Hungary attacker we should consider is Barnabás Varga (€6m). The Ferencváros TC striker helped his side win the Hungarian League last season and notched up a mammoth 20 goals and three assists in the process.

For country, Varga was integral to Qualifying success, scoring four goals in just six features. For those looking for a striker then Varga could well be a great pick.

One to Watch

Budget picks will be vital to your EURO 2024 Fantasy journey and that leads us into our next pick. Although not prolific, Ádám Nagy (€5.5m) is surely one to watch.

The 28-year-old central midfielder failed to bag any attacking returns in his last season for Italian side Spezia. But, for Hungary Nagy managed one goal and one assist in the Qualifiers and one assist in his six Nations League matches.

One of the biggest appealing factors in regards to Nagy is his ball recovery rate. In EURO Fantasy the game rewards an additional point for every three ball recoveries and the Hungarian averaged a colossal 7.9 in the Qualifying rounds.
