First Draft
Notes
I will be playing my chips in MD2 and MD3 therefore this is a squad for MD1 only. My squad is subject to change pending upcoming friendlies which will give us a better insight as to who’ll start.
Goalkeepers
Sels (BEL – €4m) – Hopefully still the Belgian number one despite the return of Casteels and is only €4m playing for a side who kept 5/8 clean sheets in qualifying.
Dibusz (HUN – €4m) – As with Sels I’m hoping Dibusz remains the Hungarian number one despite Gulácsi being available. Like Sels he is only 4m and plays on a different day versus Switzerland.
Defenders
Mittelstädt (GER – €4m) – A no-brainer. A bargain playing as left-back for the tournament hosts with three goals and five assists for club and country in the 2023/2024 season.
Dimarco (ITA – €5m) – €5m represents great value for Dimarco who returned five goals and six assists in a title winning season for Inter Milan. Between him and the €0.5 more Di Lorenzo (who could play centre-back) it’s an easy decision.
Grimaldo (ESP – €5m) – With Gaya out of the squad and Cucurella the only other left-back one would think the Leverkusen star is a lock. He was Bundesliga Fantasy’s top scorer this season (beating Kane) and was the first player ever to reach 500pts.
Hernández (FRA – €5.5m) – The French defender is currently a placeholder and may well become England’s Alexander-Arnold or Italy’s Di Lorenzo. Another attacking full-back, Hernández scored five and set up four in Serie A this season.
Cancelo (POR – €6m) – My most expensive defender but needed given I want a Portugal player in my squad. Fantasy Premier League and UEFA Champions League Fantasy players will know just how explosive the Barcelona star can be.
Midfielders
Güler (TUR – €6m) – An opening game against 75th FIFA ranked Georgia could not be better for The Crescent-Stars. Rising star Güler scored four times in his last five league games for Real Madrid and will be Turkey’s talisman.
Simons (NED – €7m) – The Dutchman had a terrific season on loan at RB Leipzig with 10 goals and 13 assists. Yet to register an attacking return for country Simons can hopefully break his duck and is expected to start as part of a front three.
Wirtz (GER – €7.5m) – A steal at €7.5m. He is arguably Germany’s best player right now and comes into the tournament off the back of an invincible league winning season. My captain for the opening night.
Foden (ENG – €9m) – Forgoing Kane up front I’m opting for a double England midfield. Foden is first of the two and is expected to start on the left. He comes into Euro 2024 in the form of his life after 38 attacking returns at Manchester City this season.
Bellingham (ENG – €9.5m) – If playing the CAM role for England Bellingham could go crazy this tournament and strengthen shouts for a Ballon d’Or triumph. Bellingham scored 19 La Liga goals in his debut season for Los Blancos – sensational stuff.
Forwards
Dovbyk (UKR – €7.5m) – The best striker available outside of the premium picks. Dovbyk topped the La Liga scoring charts with 24 goals for Girona who will play UCL football for the first time ever. Ukraine rank 23 places higher than opponents Romania.
Lukaku (BEL – €9m) – Chosen over Kane due to somehow being €2m cheaper Lukaku was the top scorer in qualifying with a whopping 14 goals from 8 games. I expect him to perform just as well as Kane on MD1 when they Belgium face Slovakia.
Mbappe (FRA – €11m) – My only player above €9.5m due to wanting to balance my squad. More essential than Kane in my opinion the France captain has 46 goals in 77 games for his country and is only 11 behind 57 goal top scorer Giroud.
