EURO 2024 Fantasy Austria Top Picks

In this article we take a look at the EURO 2024 Fantasy Austria top picks. Here we touch upon the recent form of Austria, how they achieved qualification, highlight their best picks, and anything else of relevance.

Our EURO 2024 Fantasy Austria top picks could be crucial for managers. Knowing how a team has been performing recently can be helpful. But, knowing who the best picks from each team can be essential for the tournament ahead.

Austria last featured in a World Cup during 1998 which suggests they have been lacking over the last couple of decades. They did however progress into the last 16 of their 2021 EURO campaign, eventually being dumped out by Italy after extra time.

Austria also fell short in their recent Nations League campaign. As we can see they finished bottom of their group after winning one match and losing four.

Austria did however have a brilliant EURO Qualifying campaign. We can see below that they came second in the group, just one point behind Belgium.

Whilst there Austria won six, drew one, lost one, scored 17 goals, averaged 2.1 goals scored per game and collected just three clean sheets.

Austria have maintained solid recent form overall, winning six of their last eight matches in all competitions, keeping five clean sheets and scoring a huge 18 goals.

EURO 2024 Fixtures

Austria begin their campaign against 2022 World Cup finalist France who recently topped their EURO Qualifying Group with seven wins, just three goals conceded and a massive 29 goals scored.

Things get a little easier for Austria in Matchday 2 as they clash with Poland. Poland have been up and down in terms of form and failed to progress via their EURO Qualifying Group. It wasn’t until they beat Wales in a play-off final that they advanced.

France finish their campaign with a match against Netherlands. Netherlands also achieved a fine finish in the recent 2022 World Cup, being knocked out by eventual winners Argentina via a penalty shootout. They also went unbeaten in their recent Nations League campaign, edging Belgium, Poland and France.

Top Picks – Patrick Pentz

After keeping four clean sheets in their last five matches in all competitions it could be worth tapping into their budget backline.

Budget players can be extremely helpful when it comes to fitting the more expensive players into our teams. You may find it extremely difficult pinpointing a €4m goalkeeper in the game but Austria could well provide us with one.

The injury to Alexander Schlager (€4.5m) should mean we see Patrick Pentz (€4m) between the sticks. Pentz has had a solid recent season for club, keeping a clean sheet in over a third of his matches. Interestingly Pentz also saved two out of the four penalties he faced that season.

Philipp Lienhart

Austria offer up several interesting defensive assets including centre-back Kevin Danso (€4.5m) and right-back Stefan Posch (€4.5m). The latter had a fantastic season at Serie A side Bologna. It is however difficult to pick them when considering other €4.5m options in the game.

One defender who does offer a little bit extra is Philipp Lienhart, mostly because he comes in at just €4m. Lienhart averaged between 5-6 ball recoveries per game in both his Bundesliga campaign and his EURO Qualifying matches which could help provide extra points moving forward. He also scored in his most recent Qualifier which is difficult to ignore.

Marcel Sabitzer

Buying into an Austrian frontline who netted a huge 18 goals in their last eight matches could be a good move, one that many may avoid, but still a good move.

Austria have several different options in attack but their standout is midfielder Marcel Sabitzer (€6.5m). Sabitzer predominantly plays in central midfield for club Dortmund. Last season he helped them to advance all of the way to the final of the Champions League with his one goal and five assists.

For club Sabitzer enjoy more of an advanced role on the left flank and one that has benefitted his output hugely. In fact in the EURO Qualifying he racked up four goals and two assists in just seven matches.

Adding to his overall appeal is the fact he takes corners, free kicks and some penalties, all of which provide him with additional routes to points. Taking the above into account, Sabitzer eases into the Austria top picks.

Michael Gregoritsch

There is a lack of depth when it comes to cheap strikers in the game which contributes towards the appeal of our next pick.

Spearheading the recently efficient Austria frontline is Michael Gregoritsch (€6.5m). The Freiburg striker had a reasonably solid campaign in the Bundesliga last season, scoring seven goals and creating four assists in his 32 matches.

Michael Gregoritsch was also instumental amongst the EURO Qualifying goals, hitting four goals in his six games. As well as this he also scored in his latest Nations League campaign, both show he is a constant goal threat for his country.

One to Watch

One player we should monitor is Christoph Baumgartner (€6.5m) who has spent his last several seasons at top Bundesliga club Leipzig. Although not prolific in terms of goals and assists he still has a significant hand in them.

Christoph Baumgartner has also enjoyed a good recent period for Austria, scoring three goals and registering two assists in just seven Qualifiers and a goal in his recent Nations League season. Similar to his teammates Baumgartner seems to be much convincing offensively for country than club.
