EFL Fantasy: League One Teams with the Best and Worst Fixtures

Last modified date

EURO 2024 is already coming to a close and English League football is just on the horizon. English sides will be hoping to start the 24/25 season well so with that in mind we take a look at the League One teams with the best and worst fixtures to start the season.

Knowing the League One teams with the best and worst fixtures to start the season could be crucial for fantasy managers. EFL recently announced that there would be a new fantasy game based on the Championship, League One and League Two so being prepared could be a wise move.

Teams with the Best Fixtures

Bolton will be hoping to start their new campaign well. They were the third best side in League One last season according to the standings. After winning 25 matches and losing just nine Bolton made it all of the way to the play-offs but failed to progress.

Bolton start their new campaign off with a fixture against Leyton Orient. They then go on to face newly promoted Wrexham, Charlton who finished 16th last season, Exeter, then Cambridge who finished 23/24 in 18th place.

Peterborough are another side hoping to make the play-offs for a third consecutive season. Peterborough finished their 23/24 season in fourth place, just behind Bolton, but a game against Oxford United proved too difficult in the play-offs.

Their opening match may be against Huddersfield, but they then come up against Shrewsbury, Exeter, newly promoted Wrexham and Leyton Orient. As well as believing they can challenge Huddersfield Peterborough will be going into their other games with a winning mentality.

Another League 1 side with a fairly good schedule is Blackpool. After their Championship relegation in the 22/23 season they will be hoping to at least make the playoffs this season. Their starting opposition consists of newly promoted Crawley, newly promoted Stockport, Cambridge United who finished 18th last season and regular midtable side Wycombe.

Teams with the Worst Fixtures

Wrexham will almost certainly go into the new campaign as one of the most popular sides from a football fan perspective. After back-to-back promotion from the National League and League Two the Welsh side will be hoping to make it three in a row.

Albeit full of finance and potential Wrexham face an opening match against Wycombe, then promotion chasing Bolton, Reading, a fixture against Peterborough and former Championship side Birmingham shortly after.

Exeter City will be looking to get out of their mid-table rut in League One, a position they have finished in for the last two seasons. To do that they may have to battle their way through their starting fixtures against heavyweights Rotherham, Northampton, promotion chasing Bolton and Peterborough and a seismic clash against Birmingham.

One side who have it especially tough at the start of their 24/25 campaign is Wycombe. Wycombe will be pushing for the play-offs this season but they have to make a great start against the likes of Wrexham in their opener, then Birmingham, Rotherham and Blackpool.
