Notes

  • Despite taking a hit to bring in Martin Dúbravka for Matt Turner, I somehow came out of the carnage of GW16 with a green arrow, up to an OR of ~325k.
  • In goal, I finally have an alternative to Alphonse Areola. While West Ham and Newcastle both have favourable fixtures on paper, the Hammers’ defence has been shambolic of late. So, Dúbravka will be my starting ‘keeper for GW17, providing he overcomes his injury scare.
  • In defence, I will be rolling out my Arsenal double up of Gabriel and William Saliba once again. The Gunners sit fourth-top for clean sheet odds (38%) going into GW17.
  • With Charlie Taylor suspended, my final defensive berth will be occupied by one of Jamaal Lascelles or Kostas Tsimikas. Lascelles has the better fixture and currently just edges it for me. However, Newcastle have looked tired of late and I’m not confident that a potential defensive double up will pay off against a Fulham side that have scored ten goals in two games.
  • I also haven’t ruled out a move for Pedro Porro. Although that is contingent on not needing to make transfers elsewhere.
  • My midfield is now starting to look more settled compared with previous gameweeks. Moussa Diaby survived another week in my team. However, I may now keep him if we get news that Leon Bailey is out, particularly as Aston Villa’s schedule turns for the better.
  • Anthony Gordon remains a possible replacement if I decide to move Diaby on. However, I’m not convinced by the move, particularly given Newcastle’s apparent tiredness.
  • One player who has caught my eye of late is Alex Iwobi. Fulham have undergone a recent renaissance and Iwobi ranks third among midfielders for total shots (17) and NPxGI (3.11) over the last six gameweeks. He could be an interesting differential pick.
  • Elsewhere, Mohamed Salah, Bukayo Saka, Cole Palmer and Son-Heung Min will all start again. Salah will likely to wear the armband if Erling Haaland is ruled out.
  • Darwin Nuñez – much like the rest of the Liverpool team – was poor against Crystal Palace but has probably earned at least one more week in my team due to issues elsewhere.
  • One of those issues is Haaland. Pep Guardiola didn’t sound too confident about him starting the Crystal Palace game after GW16. But, he has since stated that he expects him back on Thursday. That said, if we get concrete news that he is unavailable before the deadline then he will likely be my transfer out. Ollie Watkins and Dominic Solanke are top of my list of replacements.
