Community Team Reveal Gameweek 38 – Marc Jobling

Each Gameweek brings an FPL community team reveal. As a result, that person gives insight into their transfers, captaincy and future plans.

Ahead of Gameweek 38, it’s the turn of Marc Jobling to tell us what is happening to his team.

Hi Marc and thanks for the team reveal. So how did Gameweek 37 go?

Even though I used my Bench Boost chip, it was still extremely tough to rise because the mainstream popularity of FPL ensures that most active managers have done the same. And with almost identical players.

There ended up being a slight green arrow, thanks to my three single Gameweek guys – Jarrad Branthwaite, Gabriel and William Saliba – all bagging a clean sheet. New signing Ederson had one too yet it still felt like a failure when I could’ve instead bought Josko Gvardiol’s huge haul.

134 points and up to 81k, but still way short of the top 50k where I’d been for a while until the disastrous Gameweek 34.

What does your defence look like?

I’m pleased with it, to the point where possibly having to bench Djordje Petrovic makes me nervous. Since buying, all of his clean sheets have remained sidelined.

Having two Arsenal defenders is great – they’ve churned out a whopping 10 clean sheets in 14 matches. Pedro Porro is starting to get goals, having for a while been the non-scoring player with the most shots. Give him a trip to Sheffield United – the worst Premier League defence of all time – and I’m expecting at least one sort of return.

Meanwhile, what about your midfield and attack?

Pre-transfers, there’s also a benching dilemma further up the pitch. I suppose that’s the drawback of exiting a Bench Boost week.

Anthony Gordon’s away record is far worse than at St James’ Park and, as a Newcastle fan, I’m pessimistic about our chances of getting a result at Brentford. After all, the in-form Bees have three successive home clean sheets.

Surrounding that, the template picks of Erling Haaland, Alexander Isak, Nicolas Jackson, Cole Palmer and Phil Foden make plenty of sense.

Like Porro, Son Heung-min should feast at Sheffield United. This will be the fifth time in nine seasons that Spurs end by travelling to an already-relegated side. The others finished 4-1, 5-0, 7-1 and 1-5, alongside other final-day goal-fests against Leicester (5-4 and 4-2). They specialise in Gameweek 38 entertainment.

So what are your transfer plans for Gameweek 38?

My final attacker is Bruno Fernandes who, regardless of availability, is the player who’ll probably make way. These two free transfers need using!

The chaotic last day has all 20 teams playing at the same time, meaning a lot of team leaks could emerge in the final minutes before deadline. I need to be prepared for any shocking news.

Kai Havertz is my number one target but Brennan Johnson is liked as an even bigger differential. I’m not particularly keen on squeezing in Mohamed Salah but I’ll need forwards under consideration – Cody Gakpo, Jean-Philippe Mateta, Chris Wood and Rodrigo Muniz, for example.

However, if I have any surprise defensive absences, I don’t think it’s worth purchasing another on such a traditionally high-scoring day.

Finally, what about captaincy?

By default, it’s on Haaland and it looks like Man City will be competitive going into Sunday. It’s definitely worth a good think though. Those earlier stats on Spurs and Sheffield United make Son a real contender, plus we know how relentless Palmer is being.

Good luck and thank you for the team reveal!
