Community Team Reveal Gameweek 13 – FPL Shake n Bake

Each Gameweek brings an FPL community team reveal. As a result, that person gives insight into their transfers, captaincy and future plans.

Ahead of Gameweek 13, it’s the turn of FPL Shake n Bake (Brett) to tell us what is happening to his team.

Hi Brett and thanks for the team reveal. So how did Gameweek 12 go?

Pretty great but infuriating at the same time. I ended on 99 points, with a 300k rise to my highest rank of the season but all I could think about in the aftermath was that one more point would’ve got me both into the 100 Club and the top 100k. I captained Mohamed Salah, as well as getting returns from Erling Haaland, Kostas Tsimikas, new boy Jarrod Bowen, Ollie Watkins, Moussa Diaby, Julian Alvarez and Pedro Porro. It was only the double Newcastle boys and Emi Martinez that blanked for me.

What does your defence look like?

If I’m honest, it’s a little bit iffy. On my Wildcard, I went with Matt Turner and Robert Sanchez in goal. Unhappy with that – and with money in the bank a few weeks back – I committed the cardinal sin of making a goalie transfer. I even took a hit!

In came Martinez, who hasn’t covered himself in glory since. My back five features Tsimikas (too good a gift to turn down) and Ibrahima Konate – crazily going double Liverpool to target the recent Luton game. Budget enabler Tariq Lamptey reinjured himself as soon as I brought him in, plus there’s also Kieran Trippier and Porro, whose Tottenham colleagues then went into self-destruct mode.

Meanwhile, what about your midfield and attack?

In stark contrast. I love my midfield. Salah has been a season-long own, with his season reminding me of Harry Kane’s constant returns of last season. Alongside him, I have Anthony Gordon – a great budget pick-up who continues to have nice-looking fixtures and secure minutes. Diaby continues to impress for Villa, Bowen came in with an instant return and Pape Matar Sarr is another cheap enabler. Up front, it’s Watkins, Alvarez and Haaland.

So what are your transfer plans for Gameweek 13 and beyond?

I’m likely to take a hit. Bowen’s fitness doubts mean I’ll be waiting until Friday’s press conferences to decide for sure. Other players I’m considering removing include Konate and Diaby. With Villa’s fixtures set to hit a more difficult patch, I think I only need one of their attackers and the smart move is to keep Watkins as there are fewer forward options that I want.

Part of me is tempted by an eight-point hit, allowing me to bring Bukayo Saka back in. Whilst his underlying stats haven’t been great lately, he’s still getting returns most weeks. Alongside him, I’m set on bringing in Cole Palmer. Since breaking into Chelsea’s starting XI, he’s brought points against Arsenal, Spurs and Man City. This suggests that fixtures aren’t an issue for him and, for the money he saves, I don’t see what any of the £6.5m-ish midfielders offer that he doesn’t.

In defence, there are a few options too. The Arsenal boys look good value, although someone I’m really tempted by – after news of his return to fitness – is Luke Shaw. We know he’s a bonus points magnet, that provides an attacking threat.

Finally, what about captaincy?

It’s a tough call this week. As Ghandi says: “Never back the early kick-off.” This rules out both Haaland and Salah. If Bowen is fit, he remains in my team and I really like the look of him against Burnley. There are not many other standout fixtures though, so I’ll likely revert to one of those big hitters if he’s ruled out.

Good luck and thank you for the team reveal!
