Thursday 19th June

Club World Cup Matchday 2 Best Captains

There isn’t an abundance of captaincy options to choose from on Thursday, but there are some worth considering. One of them is Palmeiras wing-back Joaquín Piquerez (€5.1m). Taking free-kicks and a share of penalties, Piquerez also has scouting bonus against a ropey Al Ahly side due to low ownership.

Atletico Madrid penalty taker Julian Alvarez (€9m) is another standout. The in-form striker has a meeting with a Seattle Sounders side who were poor in their opening match. Alvarez was excellent last season so his side will be hoping he can replicate that after a humiliating loss to PSG.

Some could be happy to hand Porto assets the armband that same evening. Budget defender Francisco Moura (€4.1m) has already impressed – picking up seven points for his clean sheet. Moura scored twice and assisted in his final three league matches of the recent campaign.

Friday 20th June

Club World Cup Matchday 2 Best Captains

The opening match of Friday sees European Champions PSG face a poor Botafogo defence. Racking up four goals in Matchday 1, PSG are showing no signs of slowing down since their trophy win, and one of their standout attackers is Georgian Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (€9.2m) after registering two assists in the first round.

Some may even decide that teammate defender Achraf Hakimi (€6.5m) could have higher upside. Hakimi was excellent offensively last season, ranking among the top three in his position in Europe for goals and assists.

Benfica will be the team many look to for a big captaincy return this week. They come up against semi-pro club Auckland City which suggests success across the board. Their most potent and consistent attacker is striker Vangelis Pavlidis (€7.8m) who managed 20+ goals in Liga Portugal and the Champions League last season.

Saturday 21st June

A disappointing Matchday 1 doesn’t mean we are going to see another poor performance from Bayern penalty taker Harry Kane (€11m). The Bavarians face Boca Juniors next who shipped two goals to Benfica, so we could well see a return to form from Kane.

There are several great captaincy picks on Saturday, another of them is Dortmund main man Serhou Guirassy (€9m). Playing Mamelodi Sundowns this week could give Guirassy the opportunity to repeat his relentless 24/25 Champions League form.

Sunday 22nd June

Club World Cup Matchday 2 Best Captains

One fixture in particular stands out on Sunday, Real Madrid v Pachuca. Los Blancos have been vocal in their desire to win the Club World Cup and those desires are likely to be acted out by Kylian Mbappe (€11m). 40+ goals and assists in all competitions last season makes him one of the best performing attackers going into Matchday 2.

Al Hilal may be a differential option for the armband on Sunday. They come up against an inconsistent Salzburg side so we could see their stars shine. The best of the bunch is arguably midfielder Salem Al Dawsari (€5.6m), who hit 15 goals and 15 assist in the Saudi Pro League.

Monday 23rd June

The only match playing on Monday in Matchday 2 is Manchester City v Al-Ain. Al-Ain are one of the lowest ranked sides in the competition and that could mean plenty of potential for the Manchester City attack.

Spearheading Pep Guardiola’s frontline, Erling Haaland (€11m) could well add to the 20+ goals he bagged in the Premier League last campaign. The Norwegian penalty taker should have plenty of motivation after his side fell well below expectations in the previous season.
