Wydad AC qualified for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup by winning the CAF Champions League in the 2021–22 season. The Moroccan side secured their place in the tournament after an impressive campaign that culminated in a 2–0 victory over Al Ahly in the final. The match was held at their home ground, the Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca, where they capitalized on the atmosphere and delivered a dominant performance. Goals from Zouheir El Moutaraji sealed the win and crowned Wydad champions of Africa.
Their success in the 2021–22 CAF Champions League granted them one of Africa’s slots in the expanded 2025 Club World Cup. With the tournament set to feature 32 of the world’s top clubs, Wydad AC will represent both Morocco and the African continent on the global stage, continuing their tradition of strong performances in international competitions.
Recent performances do not bode well for Wydad. The Moroccan side finished sixth in the Botola Pro D1 last season. They also finished third in the latest campaign – finishing a huge 26 points off top spot.
In terms of their previous six matches, Wydad won four and lost two. Interestingly, the two games they did lose were club friendlies.
Group and Fixtures
Wydad AC join Manchester City (ENG), Al Ain FC (UAE) and Juventus FC (ITA) in Group G.
The Moroccan side have the following schedule:
- Matchday 1 – Manchester City
- Matchday 2 – Juventus
- Matchday 3 – Al-Ain
Wydad head into Matchday 1 as significant underdogs, and aren’t expected to pick up any points in the match.
The same could be said for their clash against Juventus. Juventus are expected to win this game comfortably.
Wydad’ best opportunity to pick up points comes in Matchday 3 against Al-Ain. This is a game that could go either way.

Top Picks
Backing their defence could be unwise considering the calibre if their upcoming opposition. But, for those still keen then they have plenty of cheap options. In fact, most of their starting backline comes in at just €4m, excluding centre-back Jamal Harkass (€4.1m).
Taking into account the lack of offensive potential among their defensive assets, it could be a case of backing goalkeeper Mehdi Benabid (€4m).
In attack, penalty taker Mohamed Rayhi is yet to be added to the game which is a concern. The Dutchman was one of their most influential attackers in the latest season – scoring 11 goals in his 26 features.
Forward Cassius Mailula (€5.3m) could be another alternative. The 23-year-old bagged five goals and seven assists in his recent campaign. He also heads into the Club World Cup off the back scoring two goals and one assist in his previous three games.
