Team Overview

River Plate qualified for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup by finishing as the top South American team in the CONMEBOL rankings over a four-year period. These rankings were based on performances in both the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana from 2021 to 2024.
Although River Plate didn’t win a continental trophy during that time, their consistent strong showings- such as reaching the semi-finals in 2024 – earned them enough points to secure a spot in the tournament.
River Plate have started their 2025 campaign well – sitting fourth in the Liga Profesional de Futbol (Anual). To get there they won eight, drew seven and lost one of their first 16 matches. During that time they scored 25 goals, conceded 10, and kept a huge 10 clean sheets.
Group and Fixtures
River plate face-off against Urawa Red Diamonds (JPN), CF Monterrey (MEX) and FC Internazionale Milano (ITA) in Group E.

This is their upcoming schedule:
- Matchday 1 – Urawa Reds
- Matchday 2 – Monterrey
- Matchday 3 – Inter
River Plate head into the opening round as heavy favourites against Urawa Reds, so it should be a game they win comfortably.
The South American side then come up against Monterrey, which is another game they should get a positive result from.
Their toughest match will be on Matchday 3 against Champions League finalists Inter. The European giants have the edge over River Plate for their upcoming match based on odds.
Predicted line-up

Note: There will be plenty of rotation in midfield with Lanzini Aliendro Fernández and Kranevitter all getting decent minutes. Perez and Castaño the safest bets.

Top Picks
Defence should be an area CWC Fantasy look to when considering their clean sheet run and upcoming fixtures.
The best and cheapest route into the River Plate backline is arguably goalkeeper Franco Armani (€4m). Armani has helped his side keep a huge 10 clean sheets already this season.
There isn’t much between the defenders when it comes to attacking threat. The most successful is centre-back Lucas Martinez Quarta (€5.1m). The Argentine has scored one goal and created two assists thus far this season.

In attack, penalty, corner and free-kick taker Franco Mastantuono (€4.3m) could be the best value for money. With four goals and four assists in just 12 league matches, the 17-year-old midfielder has shown both goal threat and creativity, providing those who select him with multiple routes to points.
Former Austin talisman Sebastián Driussi (€6.4m) spearheads the River Plate attack. Druissi, as well as scoring in the league, also netted three times in just six CONMEBOL Liberadores matches recently. He also heads into the competition off the back of two assists in his last four matches.
