Club World Fantasy 2025 is here! Continuing with our team previews, we take a look at the Boca Juniors best picks, predicted line-up and team overview.
Knowing how a team could line-up and their best assets could be absolutely key for success in Club World Cup Fantasy. Helping us today is fan @joaquin_roth, who has provided us with his insight.
Team Overview

Boca Juniors earned their spot in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup through their consistent performances in South America’s top competition, the Copa Libertadores, over the last few years. While they didn’t win the tournament outright during that period, they picked up enough points across four seasons (2021–2024) to finish as the second-best team in CONMEBOL’s ranking for qualification.
Notably, they reached the Round of 16 in both 2021 and 2022, and went all the way to the final in 2023, where they narrowly lost to Fluminense. These strong showings added up and secured them one of the six South American slots for the expanded Club World Cup.
Boca Juniors have had a fairly good start to their domestic campaign. The Argentinian side sit third in the Liga Profesional de Futbol (Anual 2025). To get there they won 10, drew three and lost three of their first 16 matches.
Recent form has been far from consistent from them. In fact, in their previous six games Boca Juniors have won three, lost two and drawn one. During that time they scored seven goals, conceded five and kept just two clean sheets.
Group and Fixtures
Boca Juniors meet with: FC Bayern MĂĽnchen (GER), Auckland City FC (NZL) and SL Benfica (POR) in Group C.

Their upcoming Club World Cup schedule looks like this:
- Matchday 1 – Benfica
- Matchday 2 – Bayern
- Matchday 3 – Auckland City
Boca Juniors’ first meeting with Benfica looks set to be a crucial one. Although under-dogs, a win here would mean a high probability of progression.
Matchday 2 sees them clash with Bayern, who are heavy favourites for the game. Boca Juniors aren’t expected to get anything from the clash.
Boca Juniors are heavy favourites to win against Auckland City. Anything other than a win from them will be deemed a failure.

Fan Comments
“I don’t recommend selecting Boca players in the first two Matchdays, at least not yet. Boca just officially appointed a new coach, and it’s actually someone the club had previously fired a few years ago. That alone highlights the lack of a serious, long-term project at the management level”.
“The team has been lacking any real structure or solidity lately, but I assume this new coach will try to implement a very defensive approach, as is typical of his teams, usually two compact lines of four with little room for error”.
Top Picks
At the back there are several options for Club World Cup Fantasy managers. For those struggling for a goalkeeper then AgustĂn MarchesĂn comes in at just €4.1m, so is one of the cheapest starting goalkeepers in the game.
If looking for more attacking threat then left-back Lautaro Blanco (€4.9m) could offer that. Blanco takes a share of free-kicks and corners which gives him additional routes to points, and he has also registered two assists this season already.

Although I don’t expect us to score many goals, striker Miguel Merentiel (€6.2m) was our standout player last season. The Uruguayan has already produced six goals and three assists in 18 matches this season. More recently his form has impressed – scoring two goals and creating two assists in his previous six outings.
Kevin Zenón (€5.6m) is usually our most creative player, and likely to be in the starting XI. The Argentine has netted twice in his last six matches.
You could also keep an eye out for striker Edinson Cavani (€7.2m). Cavani isn’t as consistent as he used to be, but the 38-year-old has assisted in two of his previous three games.
That’s it for our Boca Juniors Best Picks, Predicted Line-up and Team Overview. Will you be picking any of their players?
