Chelsea Top Picks for FPL 2024/25

Last modified date

Fantasy Premier League has launched for another season. For that reason we continue to cover each team in the build up to the start of the new campaign. In this article we take a look at the Chelsea top picks for FPL 2024/25.

Picking out the Chelsea top picks for FPL 2024/25 could be really helpful for managers. The Blues could be one of several teams with the potential to offer some great value for money assets this season, so let’s see what we can find.

Mauricio Pochettino had a mixed season at Chelsea last campaign in which his side finished in sixth place. That finish wasn’t enough for the owners and so the Argentine was replaced ahead of the new campaign. Replacing him is Enzo Maresca who recently helped Leicester to both promotion to the Premier League and a Championship title.

24/25 Starting Fixtures

Below we can see the Fantasy Football Scout Fixture Ticker. We can also see that Chelsea rank ninth. After a meeting with Manchester City in Gameweek 1 they then face Wolves, Crystal Palace, Bournemouth, West Ham and Brighton after that.

Chelsea Defence

It was a mixed season for Chelsea overall and they maintained some underlying defensive metrics that reflect that, ranking (best):

  • 10th – Clean sheets total (eight)
  • 12th – Goals conceded
  • 5th – Expected goals conceded
  • 14th – Shots in the box conceded
  • 14th – Total attempts conceded
  • 11th – Total shots on target conceded
  • 7th – Big chances conceded

Comparing the Chelsea Defensive Assets

Comparing all of the Chelsea defensive assets is crucial in picking out the best options. With that in mind we take a look at their minutes and attacking threat.

Axel Disasi (£4.5m) played more minutes than any other defensive asset last season with 2591 minutes. Disasi has recently undergone Hernia surgery and is currently recovering from that.

Not far behind Disasi was Thiago Silva who has recently departed the club.

Goalkeeper Dorde Petrovic (£4.5m) ranked third for minutes played but reliable sources suggest he will not be Chelsea’ number one goalkeeper next season. Instead Robert Sanchez (£4.5m) is expected to fill that role.

Levi Colwill (£4.5m) and Marc Cucurella (£5m) started 20 matches last season.

Reece James (£5m), Wesley Fofana (£4.5m) and Ben Chilwell (£5m) missed most of last season due to injury. Early rumours suggest the latter is struggling to find his best position under the new manager.

Both Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile (£4.5m) have started the first two pre-season matches for Chelsea.

The Chelsea backline also seem to be short of attacking threat and consistency in general.

Malo Gusto (£5m) leads the pack with six goal contributions but his position is under threat for the new season.

The likes of Disasi, Colwill and Chilwell all managed two attacking returns. One player who managed two goal contributions but played just five matches was James.

Conclusion

The Chelsea backline is one of the most erratic in the league when it comes to minutes to played. This is a huge concern when trying to pick out one of their defensive assets.

However, one player who will be assured in terms of minutes is Reece James who also proved offensively effective in the time he did play last season.

Robert Sanchez could also be a great option in between the sticks. Sanchez is heavy favourite to take the number one role.

Another defensive asset who could offer good value for money is Levi Colwill. His versatility to play in both a left-back and centre-back role could boost his gametime this season.

Chelsea Attack

Nicolas Jackson scoring a goal for Chelsea

As inconsistent as Chelsea were defensively last season they impressed from an attacking perspective, ranking:

  • 5th – Goals scored
  • 5th – Expected goals scored
  • 8th – Total attempts on goal
  • 9th – Total shots in the box
  • 4th – Big chances total
  • 5th – Total shots on target

Comparing the Chelsea Attackers

In terms of gametime it was central midfielder Conor Gallagher (£6m) who played the most with 3125 minutes. Gallagher has been heavily linked with a move away from Chelsea this summer.

Not far behind is striker Nicolas Jackson (£7.5m) who played 2814 minutes. Midfielder Cole Palmer (£10.5m) didn’t play his first Chelsea match until September 9th 2023 but since then has been their talisman.

Noni Madueke (£6.5m) started just 13 matches but most of those starts came at the back end of last season after impressing. Fellow midfielder Christopher Nkunku (£6.5m) missed most of last season due to injury. Both players have started Chelsea’s first two pre-season matches.

Cole Palmer dominates the pack for attacking returns with a huge 35.

Nicolas Jackson racked up 20 attacking returns last season whilst Noni Madueke impressively, managing eight in his 13 starts.

Nkunku may have played just two matches but the Frenchman managed three attacking returns. He has also scored twice in pre-season.

Additional Notes

It could be worth monitoring Chelsea during the summer window. It seems the Blues are in direct talks with elite striker Victor Osimhen which could be a hugely significant change. The move could directly affect Jackson’s minutes long-term.

Conclusion

Pre-season and the transfer window will be key for Chelsea in their pursuit of a striker.

The standout pick in the Chelsea attack remains penalty taker Cole Palmer for now after an excellent season in 23/24.

Christopher Nkunku appears to be in great form after recovering fully from his long-term injury. Nkunku can also play several different positions. Both suggests he could become a key part of the Chelsea attack.

If Chelsea do not buy a striker then Nicolas Jackson will remain a very good option.

Noni Madueke also impressed last season so if he continues to play then he could become an interesting differential.

Chelsea Top Picks

After comparing all players for both minutes and attacking potential the Chelsea Top Picks for FPL 2024/25 are:

  • Cole Palmer
  • Christopher Nkunku
  • Robert Sanchez
  • Reece James
  • Levi Colwill
  • Nicolas Jackson
