Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 5 expert picks and team

Last modified date

With a new round ahead, we take a look at Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 5 expert picks and team thoughts. @FPLGunnersaurus (Jay) joins us to give his top picks for the Matchday ahead whilst also sharing his squad going into the new round with his general thoughts.

Twitter is full of the most experienced fantasy football players around. Those managers can be some of the best people to look to when trying to gain clarity when making decisions within our teams. Checking out the Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 5 expert picks and team can help hugely for the round ahead.

Note

Be wary of possible rotation across the clubs that have been in European action this week, especially Bayern and Leipzig who also play in midweek next week in DFB Pokal action. Make sure you’ve got a bench option or two that can fill in if need be! So lets take a look at my Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 5 expert picks and team.

Top picks – Defenders – Alejandro Grimaldo (10.6m / 10% TSB / B04)

Many managers, like myself, didn’t fancy an on-sale Grimaldo against Bayern Munich. Those that were forced into keeping him, even if benched, reaped the benefits though picking up a goal and a mammoth 20 points fantasy haul. At home against Heidenheim next, the Spanish wing-back presents fantastic value for money. Pair him up with Frimpong (15m – 46% TSB) and you won’t need to worry about which side of the pitch the goals come from in a heavily expected Leverkusen win.

David Raum (12m / 10% TSB / RBL)

I’ll own one of Leipzig’s flying-full backs on MD5 away to Gladbach, just I’m not sure who as yet. Henrichs (12.1m – 30% TSB), for a defender, has a 0.67xG firing off 2.5 shots per game and has scored once. Meanwhile, Raum has also scored but has one more assist and has created three more big chances. For the purpose of this article however I’d recommend Raum this matchday. The reason why is that in the absence of Olmo it has been clear, both last matchday and in the UCL, that Raum is much higher up on the pitch and taking up more attacking positions. Being on corners too, Raum is an in form all round threat.

Mitchell Weiser (10.8m / 18% TSB / SVW)

I don’t like recycling the same picks each week, and I’m trying to avoid noting the obvious picks of Davies and Frimpong, but with a lack of great defensive options outside the top clubs it is Bremen’s Weiser who features again. Despite a 4-2 loss away at Heidenheim Weiser was one of their bright sparks, picked up a goal and was their highest rated player. Bremen host what looks like an absolutely deflated Köln on MD5 and will look to bounce back from defeat by adding to the Billy Goat’s misery. I’d expect another good showing and fantasy return from Weiser, Bremen’s best player by far, this coming matchday.

Midfielders – Jamal Musiala (15m / 17% TSB / FCB)

‘Bambi’ as he’s affectionately known hasn’t been able to display as yet this season why he’s still one of Germany’s brightest talents. He returned 12 goals and 10 assists last season and he himself would expect to surpass that in 23/24. It’s fair to say we’ve not seen one of Bayern’s rampant displays yet but at home to Bochum we may just see them assert their dominance on MD5. Musiala recorded some big fantasy hauls last season as a forward so remember, now a midfielder in the game any haul he returns is only going to be bigger and better.

Jonas Hofmann (16m / 23% TSB / B04)

A Leverkusen midfielder was always going to feature this week and it’s the lesser owned Hofmann who makes the cut over Wirtz (15.1m – 36% TSB), although I’ll own them both. What makes Hofmann a particularly exciting pick is his link-up with the lightning fast Frimpong. We saw last season what damage the Frimpong x Diaby combination down the right hand side could do and it’ll be no different with Hofmann. Hofmann is due one of his mega-hauls and it could come as soon as this Sunday afternoon against Heidenheim.

Chris Führich (9.8m / 19% TSB / VFB)

With a home game against Darmstadt of course Führich was going to be recommended for a second week running. I mentioned last week picking him could be a points chasing pick but he still returned nine points against Mainz despite no attacking returns. Against Darmstadt though I’ll be shocked if he doesn’t score or assist. His last two home games have seen him rake in 36 points in #BLFantasy with two goals and two assists. With the likes of Bayern, Leverkusen and Leipzig all having great fixtures space for Führich may be limited in your squad. If however you have a 9.8m MID shaped hole, he’s your go to player for MD5.

Forwards – Serhou Guirassy (12.1m ON SALE / 21% TSB / VFB)

Stuttgart are in fantastic form and are one of the sides to target on MD5, even if their budget friendly assets sit on your bench. If you didn’t bring Guirassy in whilst having unlimited transfers, what were you doing? With a monster 27 points fantasy haul on MD4 and now being on sale there’s no reason whatsoever to not bring him in. Stuttgart have scored five goals in each of their home games so far and it would be to the surprise of nobody if they did the same against Darmstadt, with the Guinean striker adding to his eight Bundesliga goals so far.

Leroy Sané (13.7m ON SALE / 19% TSB / FCB)

Having only scored three less points than Harry Kane, an on sale Sané could be a viable alternative to the England captain for MD5. With three goals so far this season Sané too has been in scintillating form. His side host Bochum this matchday who are yet to pick up a win yet (three draws and a loss) and I don’t expect that to change here. The only thing that could go against him is possible rotation what with midweek UCL action this week and DFB Pokal action next week. If anything I expect him to be rested in the Pokal game, so he should be a safe but highly explosive pick this matchday.

Ermedin Demirović (8.9m ON SALE / 1% TSB / FCA)

Another on sale player rounds up the forward picks this matchday. The Bosnia and Herzegovina international striker has one goal and three assists in four games so far, including a 17 points fantasy haul on MD4 in their last home game against Bochum. Augsburg host a Mainz side who have conceded three goals or more in each of their three defeats so far. Demirović’s 2.01xG suggests he’s underperforming in front of goal and leaky Mainz might just be the opposition he needs to let loose. If you’re brave and planning to take on the premium assets this matchday then Demirović could be the man for you.
