Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 4 Top Picks
The new season of German League football continues so we take a look at the Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 4 top picks. Bundesliga Fantasy expert and regular contributor @FPLGunnersaurus reveals three of the best defenders, midfielders and forwards for the fourth round.
The Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 4 top picks can be extremely useful for managers. With lots of changes to the game this season it could be difficult to adjust for managers. But the following top picks can help you bring clarity to some of the decisions you have to make ahead of the deadline.
Note: This article was written midway through the UCL MD1 fixtures and therefore may not be up to date when published due to any injuries that may have occurred etc.
Defenders – Jeremie Frimpong (18m / 13% TSB / B04)
After being rested on MD3 expect Frimpong to come back into the side for a MD4 tie at home against Wolfsburg. Grimaldo (20m) and Frimpong are by far the top two defenders to own this coming matchday but given both of their values it’s going to be difficult to accommodate them both. If you’re able to make sacrifices elsewhere doubling up on Leverkusen wing-backs could be massively differential.
After nine goals and seven assists in their title winning season Frimpong already has one goal and one assist so far (and counting) this season. In the reverse tie last season Frimpong actually bagged a goal and assist in a 2-1 away win over Die Wölfe – food for thought…
Maximillian Wittek (10m / 1% TSB / BOC)
Bochum aren’t exactly known for goals but against MD4 opponents Holstein Kiel they should be expected to pick up their first win of the season. Someone who could do very well in this game is Bochum’s left-back Wittek. Even in three consecutive defeats Wittek has been averaging 193pts per game.
38% of his total points have come from goal attempts and shot assists and with this fixture being Die Unabsteigbaren’s easiest game so far, ‘on paper’ at least, it feels like this could be the game he converts a goal attempt into a goal or a shot assist into an assist. Medić (5m) and Mašović (6m) present cheaper options into the Bochum defence but if possible I would be scrambling to find the extra funds for Wittek.
Diogo Leite (9m / 5% TSB / FCU)
Someone definitely going under the radar is Union Berlin centre-back Leite. At 9m he comes in with a budget friendly price and is the third best defence in the fantasy game currently. This is because he is a ball winning duel machine. Joint second in the league for duels won Leite has won 42 resulting in scoring a whopping 516pts from them.
The Portuguese defender is performing consistently as he won 14 duels in MD1, nine duels in MD2 and 19 duels in MD3. Die Eisernen host Hoffenheim on MD4 at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei who are expected to keep the hosts busy. He may not have the exciting attacking potential but if you’re more of a safe and cautious fantasy manager then this iron man is the pick for you.
- Alternatives – Schlotterbeck (14m / 10% TSB / BVB) / Kübler (7m / 15% TSB / SCF) / Mašović (6m / 20% TSB / BOC).
Midfielders – Xavi Simons (17m / 18% TSB / RBL)
Xavi Simons only has one assist in three games so far this campaign. He will not be happy with that and will be looking to add some further attacking returns when Leipzig travel to newly promoted St. Pauli on MD4. Leipzig ‘pulled a Leipzig’ on MD3 when they were held to a goalless home draw by Union Berlin but this game feels like one of those Leipzig will run away with and wonder why they couldn’t perform like that the game before.
In addition to potential attacking returns the Dutchman is living up to Die Roten Bullen name being a duel winning animal having won 41 duels this season (returning 301pts total). There are routes to points all over the pitch for Simons and this could be the matchday he explodes.
Nadiem Amiri (13m / 4% TSB / M05)
Mainz haven’t yet won a game yet this season but in Bundesliga Fantasy Amiri is the game’s third best performing midfielder. Consistency has been key for the German attacking midfielder who has picked up 212pts+ in each of his three games so far. He has scored twice, once from the spot, and is returning well fantasy-wise all over the pitch.
Mainly returning well in attack he is also returning well in build up play (136pts total) and in won duels (140pts total). If 212pts+ is a consistent score one can only imagine the haul he’ll return when it inevitably happens. Could a haul come this upcoming matchday in the Friday night fixture when Die Nullfünfer travel to Augsburg?
Paul Wanner (8m / 17% TSB / HDH)
If you’re looking for an enabler in this area then look no further than Heidenheim’s new midfield maestro Paul Wanner. The 18-year-old on loan from Bayern Munich already has two goals and an assist in his three Bundesliga start so far this season in addition to two goals and an assist in DFB Pokal/Europa Conference League action.
Discounting MD3 Wanner, who to note appears to be on all set pieces, averaged 202.5pts across his first two matchdays and for 8m we absolutely take that. Heidenheim host Freiburg on MD4 who are yet to keep a clean sheet so far and Wanner and company will look to pick back up that early season form with a bounce back victory.
- Alternatives – Xhaka (15m / 12% TSB / B04) / Stiller (11m / 5% TSB / VFB) / Stach (10m / 2% TSB / TSG).
Forwards – Victor Boniface (18m / 5% TSB / B04)
After his MD3 exploits and with a favourable home tie on MD4 Boniface tops the bill as the go to premium option this matchday (Kane aside of course). The Nigerian international scored twice and also assisted once in a 4-1 away romp over Hoffenheim in MD4 picking up a haul of 403pts. This game saw Boniface at his absolute best and back to his early 2023-2024 season form which saw him pick up multiple Bundesliga ‘Rookie of the Month’ awards.
The reigning champions host Ralph Hasenhüttl’s Wolfsburg on Sunday afternoon who are fresh off a home loss courtesy of damage done by another opposition striker (see below). Leverkusen will be heavy favourites and Boniface’s odds to score will be extremely high too here.
Omar Marmoush (11m / 6% TSB / SGE)
Marmoush has been on fire these last two matchdays. The Egyptian forward registered a goal and an assist at home to Hoffenheim in a MD2 3-1 win and then scored twice away at Wolfsburg in a 2-1 MD3 win. It’s no shock he’s scoring when he’s getting plenty of chances having 12 goal attempts across those two wins. He’s also picking up his fair share of points for won duels, 195pts of his 793pts total having come from coming out on top in physical battles.
Die Adler host Borussia Mönchengladbach at Deutsche Bank Park on MD4 and whilst the away side have recruited well offensively they still look vulnerable in defence (with a league fourth worst 1.82xGA) – something Marmoush will look to further exploit.
Chukwubuike Adamu (6m / 23% TSB / SCF)
Someone I’ll currently be moving out but no less a great pick for MD4 is Freiburg forward Adamu. After making the starting berth up front he scored his first Bundesliga goals of the 2024-2025 campaign with a brace against Bochum. In Bundesliga Fantasy that translated to 337pts, which as a current owner I was of course over the moon about.
Freiburg travel to Heidenheim on MD4 who just conceded four against Dortmund, so now could be a good time to play them having seen their early season form disrupted. Beyond this fixture Freiburg host St. Pauli and travel to Bremen before the next international break so I’m sure he’s going to prove a popular pick over the coming matchdays.
- Alternatives – Openda (15m / 17% TSB / RBL) / Ekitiké (12m / 10% TSB / SGE) / Kramarić (10m / 17% TSB / TSG).
