Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 34 Expert Picks and Team Reveal

Last modified date

We look ahead to Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 34. We bring in our regular contributor and Bundesliga Fantasy expert @FPLGunnersaurus. He reveals his team and plans for the new round. He also shares three of the best defenders, midfielders and forwards to buy this week.

Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 34 is here so getting ready for the new round could be crucial. Our top picks and expert team reveal could be hugely significant and massive contributing factors in the decisions we have to make in our own teams this week.

Note: Welcome to the last matchday of the 2023-2024 Bundesliga Fantasy season! As it is the last matchday of the season all fixtures will kick off at 2.30pm BST on Saturday so we will be able to view all starting XIs prior to the first whistle. Personally I am trying to beat my highest overall rank of 64th from last year and currently sit at 71st after my lowest ever Bundesliga Fantasy score on MD33. To all those with a personal goal in mind, whether it be a certain rank or winning a mini-league, for the final time viel glück!

Defenders – Mitchell Weiser (12.6m / 29% TSB / SVW)

Werder Bremen still have a slim chance of a grabbing a potential UEFA Europa Conference League spot this season. A number of things need to occur for this to happen outside of their control but what they do need to do is pick up a victory on home soil which has only happened six times this campaign. With that said a defender with something to fight for is Weiser.

A home game against a team who are still facing the prospect of the relegation play-offs is a tantalising tie. Weiser’s fantasy hauls have come away from home this season but with Bochum’s poor away form a home haul may be on the cards on the final matchday of the season.

Robin Gosens (11.3m ON SALE / 17% TSB / FCU)

Die Eisernen could be relegated automatically this matchday, could end up in the relegation play-off spot or could secure their Bundesliga survival – such is the variance results could provide on MD34. Union Berlin have to win to secure Bundesliga survival however and hope that both Mainz and Bochum taste defeat.

A home game against Freiburg on MD34 is not the easiest fixture to attempt the great escape but it could be worse. Managers may be able to squeeze Gosens into their matchday squad given he is on sale at 11.3m. 35pts across his last five games is not the best return but he and the whole team will need to give the performance of their lives to secure safety. Playing as a left-winger means Gosens has a much higher ceiling that other defenders. Again and as with the Weiser pick go for players with something to fight for this matchday. Go for Gosens.

Maximilian Mittelstädt (9.6m / 30% / VFB)

Despite securing Champions League football for the 2024-2025 season Stuttgart still have a chance to finish as Bundesliga runners-up if they beat Gladbach on MD34 and Bayern lose away at Hoffenheim. It will therefore be all guns blazing for Die Schwaben with Hoeneß fielding the strongest XI he has available. Before surely departing for the Euros Mittelstädt has one final chance to impress Bundestrainer Julian Nagelsmann.

After returning from suspension last matchday Maxi returned 11pts away at Augsburg which may well be considered as a haul given shocking performances elsewhere across defence. A potential clean sheet is surely on the cards but Mittelstädt will be hoping he can excel down the other end of the pitch with an attacking return to cap off a fine individual season.

  • Alternatives – Davies (16.7m / 14% TSB / FCB) / Maatsen (10.8m / 11% TSB / BVB) / Ryerson (9.3m / 5% TSB / BVB).

Midfielders – Kevin Stöger (12.6m ON SALE / 52% TSB / BOC)

There seems to be an ongoing theme with some players put on sale this matchday – they are fighting for their top flight survival. Such is the case with Bochum’s stand-out player this season. Austrian Stöger has amassed a whopping 336pts in Bundesliga Fantasy this season despite his side having firmly been embroiled in the relegation battle all season.

Now whilst a majority of Stöger’s double-digit hauls have come in front of his home fans we have seen him return well away too. It was only two matchdays ago on MD32 that Stöger returned 15pts in a 4-3 away win at fellow strugglers Union Berlin. Die Unabsteigbaren just need a point away at Bremen to ensure they will be playing Bundesliga football for a fourth straight season. Boss Heiko Butscher will want nothing but a win and we could see Stöger shining one last time in what has been a remarkable individual season.

Marco Reus (12.2m ON SALE / 19% TSB / BVB)

There is absolutely no way Reus does not start his final ever game for Die Schwarzgelben, even after the horror show of MD33. After 426 appearances in the famous black and yellow jersey and after 169 club goals it is time to draw the curtain on not only Reus’ Dortmund career but potentially his Bundesliga career too. Putting the last matchday aside Reus was sublime in their last home tie returning two assists and a goal in the 5-1 demolition of Augsburg.

Reus could not have asked for a better final opponent given that Darmstadt have nothing to fight for and are leaking goals all over the place. Being on sale too there really is no reason not to bring him in if he starts and own the legend one last time. In fact if he does start the romantic in me is likely to make Reus my star midfielder given the special occasion.

Florian Kainz (10.5m ON SALE / 1% TSB / KOE)

The greatest escape of all this season would come in the shape of Köln avoiding automatic relegation and then winning the play-off tie against third place Zweite Bundesliga side Fortuna Düsseldorf. For them to even get there however they must win, Union Berlin must lose and they must also overturn a -3 goal difference. The ask to win comes away at Heidenheim who have turned the Voith-Arena into a bit of a fortress this season.

It really is the toughest of asks for Die Geißböcke and players like club captain Kainz will really need to lead by example and play out of their skin. Compared to seasons yonder this one has been a flop for Kainz who has only registered nine attacking returns. He does have two goals in his last three games though, albeit both penalties, so it is clear he and Köln have not given up the ghost just yet.

  • Alternatives – Hofmann (19.3m / 22% TSB / B04) / Simons (19m ON SALE / 19% TSB / RBL) / Beste (11.2m / 42% TSB / HDH).

Forwards – Niclas Füllkrug (17.6m / 4% TSB / BVB)

With the Champions League final against Real Madrid not until June 1st Dortmund do not necessarily have a need to rest players in the final matchday of the season. That said expect head coach Terzić to field a strong XI including the likes of German international striker Füllkrug. After the embarrassment of the 3-0 away defeat to Mainz on MD33 Die Schwarzgelben will be looking to record a statement win against Bundesliga whipping boys Darmstadt.

Darmstadt are nowhere near the worst Bundesliga side ever (google ‘Tasmania Berlin’) but they sure have looked it at times with a 0-6 MD33 home defeat at the hands of Hoffenheim being their 22nd loss of the season. Füllkrug will be looking to fill his boots here and add to his 12 Bundesliga goals this season.

Victor Boniface (15.4m / 7% TSB / B04)

I will be up front here – I have no idea who Alonso will put out on Saturday. Given that Die Werkself have three games in eight days to finish up the season with, including two cup finals, expect him to field another heavily rotated side at home to Augsburg. Leverkusen just need to avoid defeat here to become the first ever invincible Bundesliga winning side but will want to go out with a bang.

Having scored five goals in each of their last two games the champions are in free scoring form and it would not be a surprise to see them put five past Augsburg on Saturday afternoon. Before his injury Boniface was in sublime form and took no time at all in adapting to Bundesliga life averaging a phenomenal 15.1pts per game in his first ten games. That included two back to back home hauls of 20pts+. Boniface himself will be looking to bow out of his maiden Bundesliga season with a bang too – but again this pick is based on him starting.

Deniz Undav (14.1m / 22% TSB / VFB)

Another forward with a favourable home tie to cap off a fantastic season in Stuttgart’s Undav. Although his strike partner Guirassy outshone him on MD33 he still managed to return a respectable fantasy score of 11pts. The Stuttgart alternative striker should be considered no less of an option however with 18 goals and 10 assists to his name this season.

He could not manage it against Augsburg but against MD34 opponents Gladbach there is a real chance for him to make it 30 attacking returns for the season. Gladbach still boast the second worst expected goals against record away from home, expected to concede 1.97 goals per game whilst on their travels. The Stuttgart party may well be in full swing already but look to the Stuttgart forward line to put the icing on the cake.

  • Alternatives – Kramarić (16.6m / 11% TSB / TSG) / Wind (13.1m ON SALE / 2% TSB / WOB) / Ducksch (12.7m ON SALE / 2% TSB / SVW).
