Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 21 Top Picks

Last modified date

The new season of German League football continues! So, we take a look at the Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 21 top picks. Bundesliga Fantasy expert and regular contributor @FPLGunnersaurus reveals three of the best defenders, midfielders and forwards for the new round.

The Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 21 top picks can be extremely useful for managers. With lots of changes to the game this season it could be difficult to adjust for managers. But the following top picks can help you bring clarity to some of the decisions you have to make ahead of the deadline.

Defenders – Premium – Raphaël Guerreiro (14m / 1% TSB / FCB)

Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 21 Top Picks

It’s fair to say Rapha isn’t the fantasy asset he used to be when he was wearing black and yellow. But, with Grimaldo suspended, managers will be forced to look elsewhere to fill a premium slot in their back line. Whilst the Portuguese left-back’s fantasy returns aren’t anything to write home about this season there’s always that haul potential. This is especially when you consider he’s nailed to start in a Bayern team at home against Werder Bremen on MD21.

Mid-price – Willi Orbán (11m / 32% / RBL)

Orbán didn’t disappoint his owners last week when he returned 318pts in a goalless away draw against Union Berlin, the highest score by a player in that game. With a home game on the horizon against St. Pauli, his ownership should only head in one direction and that’s not down. The Hungarian centre-back could make for a nice Leipzig double-up in your defence alongside the 15m valued Raum.

Budget – Kaishu Sano (8m / 18% TSB / M05)

Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 21 Top Picks

Playing Bundesliga Fantasy, we love a player who plays out of position. The 05er’s Japanese ‘central defender’ has actually played all season in central midfield. You may think as a result his duel points would drop but not at all. In fact, 2,724pts of his 3,614pts total have come from duels. Mainz host Augsburg in what actually could be a tough game where the battles are won in midfield.

Midfielders – Premium – Xavi Simons (17m / 16% TSB / RBL)

Now is the time to bring the Dutchman back into the fold for anyone who has yet to do so since his return from injury. Die Roten Bullen embark on a very winnable run of four fixtures now starting with a MD21 home game against St. Pauli. Simons performs much better at home than he does away. This is evidenced by averaging just shy of 300pts per game at the Red Bull Arena.

Mid-price – Vincenzo Grifo (12m / 19% TSB / SCF)

It’s no longer a guarantee that vice-captain Grifo makes Freiburg’s starting XI anymore. This is especially when you take into account the signing of former Heidenheim man Jan-Niklas Beste. That said he is predicted to start at the moment at home to Heidenheim on MD21. In the reverse tie the Italian put up his season high fantasy score of 452pts which included of a brace of goals. With the constant threat of his set pieces too it’s Grifo who’s my mid-price pick this matchday.

Budget – Tom Bischof (5m / 49% TSB / TSG)

Of all the budget midfielders it’s Hoffenheim’s Bischof that’s proving the most consistent. Whilst others largely rely on attacking returns to prop up their fantasy scores, Bischof is able to score big for build-up play and duels too. That’s not to say he can’t supplement that with a goal or assist from time to time. He may just do that on MD21 when Die Kraichgauer host Union Berlin on Saturday afternoon.

Forwards – Premium – Benjamin Šeško (14m / 2% TSB / RBL)

Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 21 Top Picks

If you’ve checked out Leipzig’s run of fixtures after my earlier comment and want to go all in why not add one of their strikers too? With Openda’s form dropping off a cliff in his second Bundesliga season, it’s Šeško who is looking like the man to target. The Slovenian is the club’s top scorer this season and has also topped 300pts in a matchday twice so far this season in Bundesliga Fantasy. Against St. Pauli he may well add to his eight league goals.

Mid-price – Adam Hložek (10m / 1% TSB / TSG)

The Czech Republic international forward had to leave champions Leverkusen during the last summer transfer window to find some gametime. At Hoffenheim he’s now nailed in their team and is in form as of late. In his last three games he has three goals and an assist. With Die Eisernen at home next he should fancy his chances to net again in what is a very winnable game for the Sinsheim club.

Budget – Phil Harres (3m / 27% TSB / KSV)

Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 21 Top Picks

Harres is a boring pick but he still remains the best cheap striker in the game. He’s only 3m, he’s nailed to start and he’s the club’s joint top scorer with seven goals – what’s not to like? Die Störche also have a home game against Bochum they should very much be looking to come out victorious in. In my mind Harres is actually first XI material in your fantasy line-ups this week. But, should you wish to play it safe he’s still an excellent back-up option from the bench.
