Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 19 Expert Picks and Team Reveal

Last modified date

With a new round ahead, we take a look at Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 19 expert picks and team reveal. @FPLGunnersaurus joins us to give his top picks for the Matchday ahead whilst also sharing his squad going into the new round with his general thoughts.

Twitter is full of the most experienced fantasy football players around. Those managers can be some of the best people to look to when trying to gain clarity when making decisions within our teams. Checking out the Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 19 expert picks and team reveal can help hugely for the round ahead.

Top Targets – Defenders – Raphaël Guerreiro (14.3m / 3% TSB / FCB)

If Bayern’s 1-0 win over Union Berlin counted towards fantasy last night then Guerreiro owners would be in delirium. The Portuguese star returned to his favoured left back role after Alphonso Davies was dropped and scored the winning and only goal of the game. In fantasy terms he would’ve picked up a monster double-digit haul with that goal, a couple of shots and a clean sheet to match.

Bayern picked up several potential injuries last night with Upamecano confirmed out but also with doubts over the fitness of Kimmich and Laimer. Even though Rapha doesn’t have a great injury record himself he is looking as a strong as ever and is expected to feature again away to Augsburg on Saturday. Whether this is at left-back or in central midfield is anyone’s guess but at 14.3m you’re getting a proven premium fantasy asset at a slightly less than premium price.

Ian Maatsen (10.4m / 8% TSB / BVB)

In his first week available in the game Maatsen was picked up by 8% of managers. Those managers were rewarded with an assist, a clean sheet and a 14 points fantasy return. In his two games so far Dortmund haven’t conceded and you’d like to think that will continue against MD19 opponents Bochum.

Bochum have blanked in five of their nine away games so far which bodes well for Maatsen’s clean sheet chances. Realistically though fantasy managers aren’t buying Maatsen for his defensive responsibilities. Dortmund still have a nice few fixtures coming up with Heidenheim away and Freiburg at home so as a current Maatsen owner he won’t be going anywhere for a while.

Niels Nkounkou (9.6m / 9% TSB / SGE)

Nkounkou makes my article for the second week running too. The Frenchman is currently in the form of his life now with a goal to match his two assists in hist last three games. Over that period Nkounkou has picked up 44 points and shows no signs of slowing down. Up next for Die Adler is a home game against current relegation play-off spot occupants Mainz.

The 05ers haven’t won a league game since November 4th whilst Frankfurt are back in form having won three in five, with two of those coming from their last two home games. Frankfurt have upcoming games away to Köln and at home against Bochum so like Maatsen above he’s an easy hold for the short-term future.

Midfielders – Jonas Hofmann (18.7m / 25% TSB / B04)

Despite only sitting 23 points behind teammate Florian Wirtz in the fantasy scoring charts Hofmann’s ownership is a whopping 40% lower. Hofmann is liking his points stream steady this season and that might be why managers have dropped him as the season has progressed. That said there is no way in which I’m going without him at home under the lights in the Saturday evening game against Borussia Mönchengladbach.

I’ll talk about The Foals’ defensive incapabilities in a later pick but for now let’s look at the Hof. Five goals and six assists are still decent returns after 18 matchdays (and in the fantasy game 76 points have also come for goal attempts or passes to a shot). The midfield double-up at Leverkusen looks like it’s back on once again!

Vincenzo Grifo (17.4m / 9% TSB / SCF)

After an up and down start to their Bundesliga season Freiburg are looking like a side that are getting back to their best, especially over the past two months where they have picked up four wins from six games. Stand-in captain Grifo has been blowing hot and cold all season and due to this I’ve avoided him most matchdays.

On MD18 however he scored his first non-set piece goal of the season (which incidentally was the 500th goal under boss Christian Streich) and also returned an assist in a heathy 17 points fantasy score. MD19 opponents Bremen are in the worst five for expected goals at home (1.50xGA) so again a tricky conundrum on whether to go for Grifo or not. I think I will though.

Jan-Niklas Beste (9.4m / 36% TSB / HDH)

Usually stronger at home this season Beste is someone that should strongly be considered for MD19 still despite an away fixture. That’s because his Heidenheim team travel to Sinsheim against a Hoffenheim team who have conceded three times in each of their last four games! It’s to the surprise of nobody that Hoffenheim boast the worst overall xGA out of any club in the league. I expect this to be a high scoring affair with both sides finding the back of the net several times.

Beste is Heidenheim’s creator in chief with eight assists but also knows where the back of the net is scoring five times too. As noted albeit normally only considered when at home the case is strong to bring him in for an away match this time around.

Forwards – Jadon Sancho (13.6m ON-SALE / 14% TSB / BVB)

If Sancho wasn’t on sale this pick would have been awarded to teammate Donyell Malen (16.2m / 2% TSB) however the Englishman’s discounted (a 1.5m saving) price allows me some more appealing players elsewhere. Sancho truly returns to what he calls home on Sunday when he plays in front of the Yellow Wall against Bochum.

Sancho’s start to his second spell at Dortmund has been promising having had a hand in two goals so far with an assist and a penalty one, which he wanted to take but Füllkrug wouldn’t let him. Bochum’s form on the road hasn’t been great as of late, losing their last two and conceding seven goals across them. Dortmund are the polar opposite however and have scored seven times in their last two away games. I’m not sure whether Sancho sits as a back-up striker or as part of a front three for me as yet but what I do know is that he is coming in to my squad.

Patrik Schick (11.6m / 14% TSB / B04)

Schick hasn’t scored since his MD16 hat-trick but against a Gladbach side this Saturday night (a game this writer will be attending live in person might I add) expected to concede at least two goals per away game I would be amiss not to mention the Czechia international forward. Fans of Die Werkself will be hoping for less drama on MD19 and will be seeking what should be an expected comfortable win.

Gladbach have conceded the second most goals in the Bundesliga this season, so we could see an avalanche of goals at the BayArena. Many managers will load up on Leverkusen this weekend and I will certainly be one of them.

Wout Weghorst (10.4m ON-SALE / 0% TSB / TSG)

With an on-sale saving of 1.2m fantasy managers need look no further for a wildcard pick on MD19. Weghorst’s Hoffenheim host Heidenheim at the ProZero Arena and desperately need a victory after four games without one.

I wouldn’t touch the Hoffenheim defence for my life but offensively the Sinsheim club still look good. Weghorst is Hoffenheim’s spearpoint up front and did score in their last game, making it five goals for the Dutchman this campaign. Heidenheim’s expected goals away sits at 1.92xGA so it feels likes like this game could be a goal fest – something which Weghorst will lick his lips at.
