Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 18 expert picks and team
With a new round ahead, we look at the latest edition of Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 18 expert picks and team. @FPLGunnersaurus (Jay) joins us to give his top picks for the Matchday ahead. In addition, he also shares his squad going into the new round with his general thoughts.
Twitter is full of the most experienced fantasy football players around. Those managers can be some of the best people to look to when trying to gain clarity when making their own decisions within their teams. Checking out the Matchday 18 expert picks and team can help for the round ahead.
Matchday 18 Top 4 Targets – Randal Kolo Muani (12m ON SALE – 29% owned – Eintracht Frankfurt)
It’s Frenchman Muani that leads the line in my forward picks for Matchday 18, despite having a tricky away tie to Bayern Munich. In fact it’s only because he is on sale for Matchday 18 as to why he’s coming into my squad (he enables me moving out ‘keeper Christensen). It helps that something fishy seems to be going on at the Rekordmeister, but after the round ahead, Frankfurt also have some fantastic fixtures in Hertha Berlin (home), Köln (away) and Werder Bremen (home).
There’s probably no better time for the high flying eagles to be facing Bayern. Muani will be looking to capitalise on their shaky start post winter break. Regardless of who he’s facing his returns speak for themselves – six goals, 10 assists and 9/16 double-digit returns in the games he has featured in. He already knows how to score against Bayern, having done so in their opening day 6-1 defeat to them. It’s not going to be as one sided this time though. Either it’ll be a stalemate or we see the goals fly in, I’m predicting the latter.
Patrick Wimmer (MID – 10.5m ON SALE – 11% owned – VfL Wolfsburg)
The Wolves show no sign of slowing down after the winter break. They continue to rip through their opposition picking up their sixth win on the bounce in Matchday 17. Wolfsburg have scored a league best 22 goals across the same period and one man getting in on the action is Patrick Wimmer. In their winning run the Austrian winger has scored twice and assisted four times, and that’s having missed one of the six games through injury. Next up for the Wolves is an away trip to Werder Bremen who find themselves in poor form having recently been beat 7-1 by Köln and 2-1 by Union Berlin.
The stats also point to Bremen leaking some more goals again with a home xGA of 1.66xGA, the fourth worst in the league. Wimmer is Wolfsburg’s best midfield fantasy asset right now. However if you’re looking for someone with an even lower ownership then you could also go for Wimmer’s teammate Mattias Svanberg (10.8m – 0% owned) who picked up a massive 24 points in Matchday 17.
Benjamin Henrichs (DEF – 8.6m ON SALE – 2% owned – RB Leipzig)
Prior to discovering Henrich’s was on sale my recommended defensive pick for Matchday 18 would’ve been another one from wolf pack in Micky van de Ven (4.7m – 6% owned). With the Leipzig right-back on sale and a standalone home game Friday night against Stuttgart, it’s hard to turn down such a tantalising opportunity to own him. Only 2% owned at the time of writing this I expect the German international to be heavily bought ahead of Matchday 18. Despite conceding in Matchday 17, Henrich’s picked up 16 points which included a goal. Henrich’s is a very attacking full-back, as shown with the 20 points he has picked up so far this season despite being in and out of the starting 11.
Stuttgart are yet to record a win on their travels having drawn four and lost four, conceding nearly double the amount of goals they do at home. Sometimes an opportunity comes along that’s too good to turn away and in the round ahead, it’s owning Henrichs. Due to all of the reasons above, Henrich’s makes my Matchday 18 expert picks.
Lukáš Hrádecký (GK – 10.3m – 3% owned – Bayer 04 Leverkusen)
Steering you towards shot stoppers as well as outfield players the Finnish number one features as my first goalkeeper transfer target. Sure, he’s on the pricey side at 10.3m which is the fourth most expensive goalkeeper in the game. However, that price tag looks cheap compared to top scoring ‘keeper Koen Casteels (11.7m – 7% owned). Leverkusen feature in the last game of Matchday 18, hosting a Borussia Dortmund side who have lost 5/9 matches on their travels and only won their Matchday 17 away game against Mainz due to a late comeback.
Die Werkself haven’t conceded at home either in their last three games at the BayArena and whether it’s through shutting Die Schwarzgelben out or through saves, Hrádecký is bound to feature prominently. Following matchdays see Leverkusen also face clubs like Augsburg (away), Hoffenheim (away), Mainz (home), Hertha Berlin (home) and Werder Bremen (away) ,not a bad run. Hrádecký has also added the bonus of rotating perfectly with the cheapest starting goalkeeper in Leipzig’s Blaswich (3m – 14% owned) for the next eight matchdays, right up to the next unlimited transfer period, so if you’re a Blaswich owner get on this double up!
