Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 16 Top Picks

Last modified date

The new season of German League football continues! So, we take a look at the Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 16 top picks. Bundesliga Fantasy expert and regular contributor @FPLGunnersaurus reveals three of the best defenders, midfielders and forwards for the new round.

The Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 16 top picks can be extremely useful for managers. With lots of changes to the game this season it could be difficult to adjust for managers. But the following top picks can help you bring clarity to some of the decisions you have to make ahead of the deadline.

Defenders – Premium – Maximilian Mittelstädt (17m / 9% TSB / VFB)

Managers who brought Mittelstädt in for Stuttgart’s MD15 fixture were duly rewarded, despite a shock 1-0 loss at home to St. Pauli. The German international left-back raked in 340pts with nearly half of those points coming from won duels. That’s now a 300pts+ return in back-to-back games and away to Augsburg on MD16 something similar may occur. Dare I say it, I think he’s the best candidate for your star defender this matchday.

Mid-price – Diogo Leite (9m / 19% / FCU)

With Steffen Baumgart now in charge after replacing Bo Svensson, are Die Eisernen due a new manager bounce? Centre-back Leite was one of the top defenders to own early on this season putting up impressive scores in an iron-clad Union defence that only conceded five goals in their first eight games. Leite regularly produced 200pts+ scores during this time and even a couple above the 300pts mark. Baumgart looks to revert to a back four away at Heidenheim which he has seen success with in the past.

Budget – Nathaniel Brown (5m / 25% TSB / SGE)

Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 16 Top Picks

With a favourable fixture run on the horizon and not in Die Adler’s squad for their remaining Europa League group stage fixtures, Brown should be a lock in your defensive line, even if as a back-up. As a reminder he plays out of position as a left midfielder and is a defender by name only in the fantasy game. He has three goals and three assists so far this season which included another one last time out in defeat to Mainz. Frankfurt play promoted St. Pauli up next.

Midfielders – Premium – Michael Olise (16m / 14% TSB / FCB)

Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 16 Top Picks

Most squads will be tripled up on Bayern assets given their next five fixtures are all against teams currently placed 8th or lower and with three of those on home soil. Kane and Musiala are simply must haves and the only two other solid options are Upamecano and Olise.

Given Upamecano is suspended for MD16 and that there may not be much defending to do across this fixture run anyway it’s the attacking option Olise I favour. After his summer move he has eased into Bundesliga life with five goals and assists apiece. It’s Borussia Mönchengladbach up next for Der FCB.

Mid-price – Ritsu Dōan (10m / 13% TSB / SCF)

Despite club comrade Grifo’s set piece threat, it is the Japanese star who has been more consistent throughout the season in terms of the fantasy scores he is putting out. Whist an away win has been hard to come by lately for the Black Forest club at home it’s a different story, winning three of their last four and netting three times in each of those victories. You’ll need a piece of the Freiburg attack on MD16, considering they host the team with the leakiest defence in the league, Holstein Kiel.

Budget – Paul Nebel (6m / 5% TSB / M05)

Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 16 Top Picks

Mainz frontman Burkhardt is currently out injured so someone is going to need to step up and score goals for the Die Nullfünfer. Step forward budget asset Nebel who has scored a couple of braces lately, returning whopping fantasy scores of 408pts and 473pts in those games. At only 6m and with a home game against bottom of the table Bochum next Nebel is the man to go for if you need a cheap midfield option. Mainz are also in great home form having won their last three at the Opel Arena.

Forwards – Premium – Harry Kane (20m / 15% TSB / FCB)

Whisper it quietly but currently the Bundesliga’s top scorer is still sitting under 20% ownership. So, he can be considered a differential this coming matchday. Outperforming his 12xG with 14 goals and averaging a goal per game, are you prepared to go without the England captain for another week? Opponents Gladbach have been strong at home this season and have somewhat been a bogey team in recent years for record champions. With Kane however, Bayern did the league double over The Foals last season. So, they’ll look to continue dominating this fixture from now on.

Mid-price – Benjamin Šeško (14m / 20% TSB / RBL)

Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 16 Top Picks

As a mid-priced option, it’s probably safe to stick with the 11m valued Marmoush. But, if you did fancy a foray elsewhere the Slovenian striker is on a hot streak. He has scored in each of his last three Bundesliga games and will look to get on the scoresheet again on MD16 at home to Werder Bremen. There’s not much between the two sides with only two points separating them. But, the bookies favour the home side in this affair.

Budget – Lucas Höler (8m / 0% TSB / SCF)

Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 16 Top Picks

A Freiburg forward simply had to feature here with, on paper at least, the easiest fixture of their league campaign coming up at home hosting Holstein Kiel. Höler has returned a couple of decent fantasy scores at home lately which saw him rack up 403pts on MD12 against Gladbach. They came courtesy of two goals and an assist, as well as 247pts on MD14 against Wolfsburg which saw him supply an assist in a 3-2 victory. He’s on the expensive side for a cheap budget forward but an option nonetheless that could fit into your squad for a week.
