Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 1 expert picks and team
With a new round ahead, we look at Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 1 expert picks and team thoughts. @FPLGunnersaurus (Jay) joins us to give his top picks for the Matchday ahead whilst also sharing his squad going into the new round with his general thoughts.
Twitter is full of the most experienced fantasy football players around. Those managers can be some of the best people to look to when trying to gain clarity when making decisions within our teams. Checking out the Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 1 expert picks can help hugely for the round ahead.
Top picks – Defenders – Ramy Bensebaini (13m / 14% owned / Borussia Dortmund)
Bensebaini is a personal favourite of mine and after moving from North Rhine-Westphalia neighbour’s Mönchengladbach finds himself playing for a much more attacking team. He may not have penalties this season but will remain a huge attacking threat down the left hand side. His heatmap from last weekend’s DFB Pokal match evidences just that, also showing him getting into the opponents box on occasions too.
Alphonso Davies (15m / 22% owned / FC Bayern München)
The joint most expensive defender in the game alongside teammate Raphaël Guerreiro, Davies should be a lock in most fantasy squads however is currently only owned by 22% of managers. Perhaps put off by his price Davies could actually be a differential heading in to the start of the season. The Canadian’s last two seasons have been disrupted by injuries and sickness, however he is now fully fit and I for one would rather own him instead of sitting behind a sofa and not be on the end of one of his hauls.
Phillip Max (10m / 3% owned / Eintracht Frankfurt)
After making his move to the Eagles permanent I’m hoping we can see the best of Max in the 23-24 season. At former clubs PSV Eindhoven and fellow Bundesliga competitors Augsburg the German international provided 10+ attacking returns in three seasons between 2017 and 2021. Frankfurt host one of the promoted teams in SV Darmstadt and should be targeting a heavy win. On some set pieces too Max might be able to get in on the action.
Notable Mentions
- Frimpong (14m – B04)
- Grimaldo (10m – B04)
- Juranovic (10m – FCU)
- Ryerson (9m – BVB)
- Buta (8m – SGE)
- Maehle (8m – WOB)
- Knoche (7m – FCU)
Midfielders – Jamal Musiala (15m / 60% owned / FC Bayern München)
Take advantage of Musiala at 15m whilst you can. Having been reclassified as a midfielder Musiala gets more points for his attacking returns this season, yet shows no signs of playing anywhere else other than within Bayern’s forward line. With 12 goals and 10 assists in the 22-23 season Musiala is only going to get better this coming campaign. Lock him in your MD1 squad against Werder Bremen and leave him there all season long.
Julian Brandt (15m / 15% owned / Borussia Dortmund)
With Bellingham leaving for Madrid Brandt has become even more pivotal for Dortmund. As consistent as you come Brandt has scored nine times and provided eight assists in each of his last two seasons. At the heart of everything going forward, and with a hugely favourable MD1 home tie against Köln, Brandt should be another lock in your fantasy squad.
Marcel Sabitzer (9.9m ON SALE / 18% owned / Borussia Dortmund)
One of few players to make the move from Munich to Dortmund, the Austrian international is looking to recapture his best form in black and yellow. After a rocky two seasons at Bayern Munich and Manchester United he looks to be firmly in Edin Terzic’s starting XI by the looks of preseason, he’s on-sale for MD1 and he’s likely on set pieces too. If you’re looking to bump up that budget ahead of future matchdays Sabitzer could be a MD1 steal.
Notable Mentions
- Grifo (15m – SCF)
- Olmo (14m – RBL)
- Reus (13m – BVB)
- Lindström (13m – SGE)
- Honorat (11m – BMG)
- Svanberg (9m – WOB)
- Millot (8m – VFB)
- Černý (7.2m ON SALE – WOB)
Forwards – Harry Kane (13.5m ON SALE / 33% owned / FC Bayern München)
Arguably the Bundesliga’s biggest ever foreign acquisition and a man who needs no introduction, England international captain Kane should be a lock in all fantasy manager’s squads at a sale price of just 13.5m. Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth here – Kane could hit Lewandowski levels this season in terms of goals scored.
Donyell Malen (14m / 10% owned / Borussia Dortmund)
Dutch forward Malen finally arrived in the Bundesliga last season. Malen provided nine goals and six assists in 27 matches, with all of those goals coming in the second half of the season. Malen put in a man of the match performance with a goal and two assists in their DFB Pokal game last weekend and against Köln at home in MD1, whom Die Schwarzgelben smashed 6-1 only five months ago, Malen could maul the same opposition once again.
Serhou Guirassy (12m / 3% owned / VfB Stuttgart)
Don’t let the fact that Stuttgart only survived relegation last season via winning the play-off against Hamburger put you off Guirassy. The Guinean was on a hot streak towards the end of last season, carried that hot streak into international duty and then into pre-season scoring four in their last two games. A great, on paper at least, home tie against Bochum beckons in MD1 – perfect for Stuttgart to shake off the cobwebs of last season and kick-off the 23-24 season with a win.
