Brighton Top Picks for FPL

In this article we pick out the Brighton top picks in FPL. Using tools like the fixture difficulty ticker and underlying stats from the Fantasy Football Scout members area we can provide the best Brighton players to buy in each position.

Going through the Brighton top picks for FPL can be extremely helpful for the period ahead. The Brighton fixtures are great long-term and they are having a good campaign overall so investing in them could be hugely beneficial for fantasy managers.

The Brighton Fixtures

As we can see Brighton rank at the top of the fixtures ticker for the next six Gameweeks. The Seagulls have matches against the likes of Wolves, Luton, Crystal Palace, Tottenham, Sheffield United and Everton.

Because of the fixtures Brighton could be worth investment. However, a lot of their assets have flags in the game for different reasons so lets take a look through them.

Flagged Brighton players

The following players are flagged in FPL:

  • Ansu Fati (£6.4m) – Injured
  • Kaoru Mitoma (£6.4m) – Injured
  • Solly March (£6.1m) – Injured
  • Julio Enciso (£5.1m) – Injured
  • Simon Adingra (£5m) – AFCON
  • Julio Igor – (£4.3m) – Knock
  • Veltman (£4.3m) – Injured
  • Tariq Lamptey (£3.9m) – Injured

The Brighton defence

Whilst the rhetoric is that Brighton have a terrible defence this season, it could be worth taking a look at their stats. When compared to every other team this season they rank:

  • Joint worst for clean sheets.
  • Mid-table for expected goals conceded.
  • Mid-table for shots in the box conceded.
  • Mid-table for big chances conceded.
  • In the top six teams for total attempts conceded.
  • In the top six teams for shots on target conceded.

As we can see, although Brighton are lacking in clean sheets, they are maintaining some mid-table to very good underlying defensive metrics. With that and the fixtures in mind it could be worth investing in the backline, but who do we pick?

When comparing minutes played this season Lewis Dunk (£5m) is superior with 16 starts and 1414 minutes played. Fellow centre-back Jan Paul Van Hecke (£4m) sits second with 13 starts and 1208 minutes played. The next available player in terms of fitness is full-back Pervis Estupinan (£4.9m) who has started seven matches and played 630 minutes, largely due to injury.

When then compared them in terms of goal threat so far this season.

As you can see when looking at non-penalty expected goal involvement per 90 minutes Pervis Estupinan sits at the top with 0.35. Lewis Dunk follows behind with 0.24 non-penalty expected goal involvement and Van Hecke sits third with 0.08.

All three options offer different pros and cons. Pervis Estupinan could be the most explosive pick with five attacking returns already. Lewis Dunk offers both security of minutes and good NPXGI but it is also with highlighting he has managed just one goal involvement this campaign. Van Hecke may not offer much attacking threat but at £4m and reliable in terms of minutes he could be a great budget pick at the back.

The Brighton attack

Brighton have been efficient when it has come to scoring goals this season. In terms of their attacking numbers they rank:

  • Fifth for goals scored
  • Seventh for expected goals
  • Fifth for total attempts on goal
  • Fourth best for shots in the box
  • Fifth for big chances total
  • Second best for shots on target total

As we can see, Brighton are maintaining some very good underlying attacking metrics. So, which assets should we be targeting?

Below we compared the Brighton attackers in terms of starts and minutes played.

As we can see a lot of the names above are flagged so we will only highlight the players that are available to play. Midfielder Pascal Groß (£6.4m) is the most reliable with 17 starts and a huge 1560 minutes played. The second highest ranked player in terms of gametime who is available to play is midfielder Billy Gilmour (£4.9m). Following him are strikers Evan Ferguson (£5.9m) with 11 starts and then Joao Pedro (£5.4m) with nine starts.

We then compared the same players for their underlying attacking data.

As we can see leading the pack in terms of non-penalty expected goal involvement is Pascal Groß with 8.09. He also sits joint top for goals and assists but also FPL points this season. Not far behind Groß is penalty taker Joao Pedro who ranks second with 6.75 non-penalty expected goal involvement and joint top for goals and assists.

As we can see gametime and rotation is an issue with the Brighton attackers. However, the standout option in the frontline is Pascal Groß who is reliable for minutes and has impressive underlying attacking numbers. Another good option, but still a risk in terms of gametime is Joao Pedro. The Brazilian may be a rotation risk but takes his sides penalties and is one of their most potent attackers.

Brighton Top Picks

As we have trudged through the data, it has become very clear that some assets standout above the rest. Here are the players that FPL managers could look to target for the period ahead:

  • Pervis Estupinan
  • Jan Paul Van Hecke
  • Lewis Dunk
  • Pascal Groß
  • Joao Pedro
