Brentford Top Picks for FPL 2024/25

Last modified date

Fantasy Premier League has launched for another season. For that reason we continue to cover each team in the build up to the start of the new campaign. In this article we take a look at the Brentford top picks for FPL 2024/25.

Picking out the Brentford top picks for FPL 2024/25 could be really helpful for managers. The Bees could be one of several teams with the potential to offer some great value for money assets this season, so let’s see what we can find.

Brentford were well short of fans expectations last season. The Bees finished in 16th place and whilst disappointing it still meant they placed a huge 13 points above the relegation zone. Thomas Frank will be hoping for a much better finish this season.

24/25 Starting Fixtures

Below we can see the Fantasy Football Scout Fixture Ticker. We can also see that Brentford rank second from bottom for the first six Gameweeks. This indicates that they have the second toughest fixtures in the league to start the new season.

Brentford Defence

It wasn’t a great season from the Bees but they maintained some mid-table metrics defensively (best):

  • 13th – Clean sheets kept (seven)
  • 13th – Total goals conceded
  • 8th – Expected goal conceded
  • 8th – Total shots in the box conceded
  • 13th – Total attempts on goal conceded
  • 10th – Shots on target conceded
  • 10th – Big chances conceded

Comparing the Brentford Defensive Players

Comparing all of the Brentford defensive assets is crucial in picking out the best options. With that in mind we take a look at their minutes and attacking threat.

The only player to play more than 3000 minutes last season for the Bees was goalkeeper Mark Flekken (£4.5m).

Leading the defenders for gametime was Nathan Collins (£4.5m) with 2677 minutes. Fellow centre-back Ethan Pinnock (£4.5m) also played 2500+ minutes.

First team left-back Rico Henry (£4.5m) played just 397 minutes due to a long-term injury.

As we can see there is a major lack of attacking threat from the Brentford attackers.

Rotation risk defenders like Mads Roerslev (£4.5m) and Ben Mee (£4.5m) both hit three attacking returns. Collins and Pinnock, two of Brentford’ most reliable options at the back ended the campaign with two attacking returns a piece.

Of Pinnock and Collins it’s the former who had more shots in the box and big chances.

Conclusion

The lack of attacking threat in the Brentford defence could suggest goalkeeper Mark Flekken as one of their best defensive assets.

For those still wanting to back a Brentford defender then Ethan Pinnock stands out above the rest, just edging Collins in the process.

It could also be worth monitoring Rico Henry. The full-back was previously one of their best defenders for attacking potential so his return to injury could be significant.

Brentford Attack

Now its the turn of the attackers. What we should mention is that although fourth on the list striker Ivan Toney (£7.5m) missed most of last season due to his long-term ban, only returning to first team football in January.

One player who benefitted in Ivan Toney’s absence was fellow forward Yoane Wissa (£6m) who played 2519 minutes. The only other player who got near the 2000 minute mark was midfielder Bryan Mbeumo (£7m).

What is interesting when comparing their attacking threat is that although Wissa played 500+ more minutes than Mbeumo but the latter matched the former with 16 attacking returns last season.

Ivan Toney played just 1457 minutes and still managed seven goal contributions.

Additional Notes

New Brentford striker Igor Thiago (£6m) picked up a bad injury during pre-season which could see him miss ‘months’ of the new season.

Rumours continue to circulate that Ivan Toney could depart Brentford during the transfer window.

Conclusion

As is stands, the standout attacking asset for Brentford is penalty taker Ivan Toney. Toney has proven to be one of the best strikers in the league and if he stays at Brentford he could have huge potential once again.

Bryan Mbeumo is also a very good midfield option. If Toney does leave then Mbeumo is likely to inherit penalty duty which could add to his appeal.

We can’t rule out Yoane Wissa either after an impressive campaign. With the new striker injured and Toney potentially leaving he could have even more responsibility this season.

Brentford Top Picks

After comparing all players for both minutes and attacking potential the Brentford Top Picks for FPL 2024/25 are:

  • Mark Flekken
  • Bryan Mbeumo
  • Ivan Toney
  • Ethan Pinnock
  • Yoane Wissa

Bournemouth could also offer up some great value assets, find out who their top picks are here.
