Blank Gameweek Announcement
Today the Premier League have made an announcement ahead of the start of the 23/24 season. The blank gameweek announcement informs managers that there will be two blank gameweeks in Gameweek 2 and 18.
The Premier League have today confirmed that Man City will blank in Gameweek 18 due to their involvement in the Club World Cup. Man City were scheduled to play against Brentford in Gameweek 18. Both clubs will now blank that week and the game will be rescheduled.
The announcement also confirms that the match between Luton and Burnley scheduled for Gameweek 2 has also been postponed. This postponement is due to Luton being unable to guarantee that Kenilworth Road will be ready to host Burnley. This fixture will also be rescheduled for later on in the season.
The Premier League match between Luton Town FC and Burnley FC, scheduled to take place on Saturday 19 August, will now be postponed. Luton Town FC were unable to offer the League and Burnley FC a guarantee that ongoing work to Kenilworth Road would not impact the scheduling of this match at late notice for supporters.
In addition, the Premier League match between Manchester City FC and Brentford FC, scheduled for Saturday 23 December, has been postponed due to Manchester City FC’s involvement in the FIFA Club World Cup.

All four of these clubs will have a double gameweek to play at some stage. When this will happen will be confirmed when the matches are rescheduled.
The postponement of the Gameweek 2 fixture between Luton and Burnley could have an impact on the decisions that FPL managers make. Many managers were considering the double up of budget defenders such as Beyer and Bell. With both teams failing to play in Gameweek 2 managers may rethink that strategy.
