Best Wildcard Team for UCL Fantasy Matchday 16

Last modified date

This week could be a great opportunity to play a chip. But, if you’re not sure how your squad should look, then you’re in the right place. Here we build the best wildcard team for UCL Fantasy Matchday 16.

Knowing who to pick on your wildcard may be crucial to navigating the new fixtures and key player injuries, so let’s take a look.

Playing with home advantage and edging the tie 1-0, PSG are favourites this week. With that in mind, and taking into account his heroics in the previous round, Gianluigi Donnarumma is our goalkeeper on Tuesday. Whilst a clean sheet doesn’t look likely for either side on Wednesday, coverage will be key, so Inter’ Yann Sommer makes the cut.

PSG’ Achraf Hakimi and Nuno Mendes rank as two of the best assets in the game thus far for points. Whilst clean sheets can be hit and miss, both players offer significant attacking threat, which is something they have shown on several occasions this season already.

Arsenal play away from home, but owning at least one of their defenders could be a safe play. William Saliba is their most reliable option for minutes. The same could be said for Barcelona’ Pau Cubarsi. A clean sheet looks less likely but if the Catalans do keep a clean sheet, then there is at least cover in place.

Inter’ back-three means that their wing-backs get into some of the most advanced positions on the pitch. Of their wing-backs Denzel Dumfries is arguably the most dangerous – with two goals and one assist in his previous match alone.

Barcelona maintained their three goals scored per match average against Inter in the previous round, so backing them offensively is essential. Raphinha and Lamine Yamal have extremely high ownership due to their excellent consistency. But, that means owning both just isn’t enough to benefit from their goals. So we could bring in Ferran Torres, who continues to replace the injured Robert Lewandowski up front effectively. The Spaniard showed his potential by scoring in Matchday 15.

At the time of writing, Ousmane Dembele isn’t in training for PSG. But, if fit, then he could be considered an essential. His consistency has made him one of the most reliable attackers in UCL Fantasy, so monitoring news will be key.

Completing the midfield is Bukayo Saka. With convincing goal scoring performances against Real Madrid and PSV in the previous rounds, Arsenal have displayed their attacking potential on multiple occasions. Saka is the best of the bunch based on his output in both the Champions League and Premier League this campaign.

Inter’ Lautaro Martinez is pushing hard for a return this week. The Argentine picked up a minor injury in Matchday 15 and seems to be recovering from it quickly. Martinez is absolutely key for the Inter attack, so if he is back, then he’s arguably essential. If we hear news he won’t play we could look to teammate Mehdi Taremi.

Barcelona have been extremely poor defensively this season, so doubling up on the Inter attack with Marcus Thuram could be key. Thuram is vital for Inter on the counter-attack, which is something he showed with his goal in the first leg.

The lack of forwards is an issue this week. But, thankfully we have another playing striker in Desire Doue. Doue recently scored against Aston Villa and has been fantastic to watch. The youngster could well return this week. So, having him in place if he does should be the play.
