With the Premier League taking a brief pause for international duties, now is the perfect time for managers to take a trip down memory lane and ponder the best value assets in FPL history.
Cole Palmer (2023/24)

Topping the list is none other than the recent sensation, Cole Palmer. Joining Chelsea from Manchester City, Palmer didn’t even break into the starting line-up until Gameweek 7. Despite this, he went on an incredible run, amassing 22 goals and 13 assists in just 29 starts.
Starting at a mere £5.0m (even dipping to £4.9m at one point), Palmer concluded the season with an astonishing 48.8 points per million, setting a new benchmark for FPL value. His subsequent price hike to £10.5m for the following season highlights the impact he had.
Mark Schwarzer (2013/14)

Going further back, we find another bargain in goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer. Signed by Fulham for just £4.0m, the experienced Australian became their undisputed number one for five seasons.
In the 2013/14 season, Schwarzer secured 15 clean sheets and even saved a penalty, contributing to Fulham’s strong defensive record (third fewest goals conceded). His consistent shot-stopping earned him 175 points, translating to a remarkable 43.8 points per million.
Emiliano Martínez (2020/21)

The 2020/21 season saw Emiliano Martínez become a standout goalkeeper for Aston Villa. Priced at just £4.5m, Martínez kept an impressive 15 clean sheets and made a phenomenal 142 saves, significantly higher than his typical season.
His ability to earn bonus points through saves and a single yellow card all season (on the final day, costing him a place in the all-time Dream Team) resulted in 186 points and a value of 41.3 points per million.
Kieran Trippier (2022/23)

Newcastle’s Champions League qualification in the 2022/23 season was heavily influenced by the performances of Kieran Trippier. Starting at a modest £5.0m, the defender contributed with one goal, nine assists, and 16 clean sheets, racking up 198 points.
His consistency also earned him a noteworthy 39 bonus points, leading to a fantastic value of 39.6 points per million. His subsequent price rise to £6.5m reflected his impact.
Michu (2012/13)

Signed by Swansea for a modest fee, Michu, classified as a midfielder but often playing as a striker, hit the ground running in his debut Premier League season. Starting at just £6.0m, he scored two goals in his first game against QPR and went on to net 18 goals and provide three assists, totalling 186 points.
This translated to a value of 31 points per million. His goals also played a part in Swansea’s League Cup victory. Sadly, injuries curtailed his promising career.
Riyad Mahrez (2015/16)

Leicester City’s fairy-tale title win in 2015/16 saw Riyad Mahrez as a pivotal figure. Starting at a bargain price of £5.5m, the Algerian winger was instrumental, scoring 17 goals and providing 11 assists, totalling 28 attacking returns.
