Best transfers of the summer for FPL
It has been a very busy transfer window for Premier League clubs. With that in mind it could be wise to take a look at the best transfers of the summer for FPL. We focus on the biggest transfers that could have a significant affect on fantasy football and on the decisions we could make.
Going through the best transfers of the summer could be extremely helpful for managers. Knowing how new signings will affect each club could be essential to making decisions with transfers, captaincy and chip strategy.
Arsenal
Arsenal had a busy summer of incomings. They made one of the biggest signings of the transfer window as they secured Declan Rice from West Ham. Rice is considered as one of the best central midfielders in world football. This will no doubt make their defensive and offensive assets even more attractive as options.
The Gooners also brought in Kai Havertz from Chelsea. The German has had several poor performances since joining Arsenal and his disappointing record at the Blues could reinforce the fact that he could be worth avoiding in FPL
Aston Villa
Aston Villa’ best signing of the summer is no doubt Moussa Diaby. The midfielder has shown huge qualities during the early stages of the campaign picking up two goals and one assist in his three matches so far. Diaby has shown early signs that he could be a fantastic FPL asset moving forward.
Pau Torres also came in for Aston Villa. The left-footed centre-back has impressed some of the top European clubs over the last several years for his qualities. We are yet to see much of him but as soon as he settles we could well see Aston Villa a lot stronger at the back meaning more clean sheets for investors.
Brentford
Brentford have started the campaign in top form even without star man Ivan Toney. One of their summer signings is midfielder Kevin Schade who has evidently got off to a great start – he picked up two returns in his last two matches for the Bees so could be one player to monitor.
Another new incomer was goalkeeper Mark Flekken who replaced former number one David Raya. Brentford have kept just one clean sheet in their first four matches so Flekken could be one too watch longer term.
Brighton
Brighton have continued their good performances of last season. One of their new signings is striker Joao Pedro who came in from Watford. It could be tough for him to cement a place within the first team due to rotation but the Brazilian bagged 11 goals and four assists in the Championship last campaign and he’s already taking the Brighton penalties.
Another new incoming is goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen who looks set to cause fantasy managers headaches. He is currently being rotated with Jason Steele. Another new signing to excite FPL managers is the arrival of Ansu Fati from Barcelona. It is not yet clear how he will impact the team but has shown offensive qualities for the Spanish giants.
Chelsea
The Blues were one of the busiest teams in the transfer window this summer. Two huge additions to their central midfield in Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo could help Chelsea keep more clean sheets long-term. The former has also shown huge creativity and has been taking corners and free kicks for his side.
There has been plenty of new players coming in to help the frontline. Striker Nicolas Jackson showed promise in pre-season and scored his first goal in Gameweek 3. Chelsea will be eagerly waiting the return of midfielder Christopher Nkunku from injury after netting three times during pre-season.
Liverpool
Most of Liverpool’ business has come in their central midfield. One of their first signings of the summer was midfielder Alexis Mac Allister who impressed massively for Brighton last season. Another new incoming was midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai from German side Leipzig. Both players are expected to help the Reds defensively and offensively long-term.
Manchester City
Many fans expected more from Manchester City in terms of investment this summer especially with the departures of Riyad Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan. One of their few signings included centre-back Josko Gvardiol. The Croatian international was fantastic in his most recent World Cup campaign and quickly became one of the most sought after defenders in Europe. His arrival, although likely to strengthen the defence and help keep more clean sheets will almost certainly mean more rotation at the back.
The league holders also brought in midfielder Jeremy Doku who scored six goals and two assists in the French league last season. He is also regarded as one of the quickest players in Europe so could well add plenty of creativity to the already relentless frontline.
Manchester United
Manchester United were extremely busy in the summer with incomings. One of their most significant singings was the arrival of the highly rated Andre Onana who helped Italian side Inter reach the final of the Champions League last campaign. Early signs suggest he could help the Reds keep clean sheets but key defensive injuries could dampen that.
Another signing that rocked the league was midfielder Mason Mount from Chelsea. Mount has been poor for the Blues for some time and his early performances in red were also questioned. We are yet to see how big Mount’ impact will be until he returns from injury.
The Reds best signing Rasmus Hojlund is yet to prove his worth as he recovers from an injury. He is expected to start featuring for Manchester United in the coming games. The 20-year-old Dane has already cemented his place at international level.
Nottingham Forest
Nottingham Forest were the busiest side in the transfer window. Goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos came in from Benfica who he helped reach the latter stages of the Champions League last season. There can be little doubt that someone of his quality will push Matt Turner into the number two role and also help his new club keep more clean sheets. Another player who could assist with that defensive midfielder Ibrahim Sangare who helped PSV secure Champions League football this season.
One of the most interesting signings in attack could well be midfielder Anthony Elanga from Manchester United. The 21-year-old Swiss winger scored against Chelsea in the most recent round so could be a big addition and ultimately aid in adding creativity and goals.
Tottenham
Tottenham had quite the void to fill when Harry Kane decided to depart to Bayern. One of the biggest pieces of business during the summer was the incoming of former Leicester midfielder James Maddison. Maddison has quickly become an FPL favourite managing three returns in just four matches played.
Full-back Destiny Udogie also came in from Italian side Udinese. So far Udogie has cemented his place as the starting left-back and he’s already impressed after bagging two returns in his last two matches from his assist and two clean sheets.
Tottenham also signed Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest. Johnson is a Welsh international who became crucial for both club and country. The attacker collected eight goals and three assists last season and will almost certainly add to the rejuvenated Spurs frontline.
