Best times to use the Wildcard in FPL

In this article we take a look at the best times to use the Wildcard in FPL. With the help of the Fantasy Football Scout members area, we utilise their fixture ticker and underlying team and player data to determine some of the best Gameweeks to activate the chip.

Looking at the best times to use the Wildcard in FPL could be very beneficial to planning. The Wildcard is extremely important for fantasy managers as it allows them to make as many changes to their squads as they would like with the fixtures ahead.

Right now!

Some managers may feel that they have too many issues within their squads to wait to use the Wildcard. These issues could include injuries, bans, and even having ineffective assets in their squads.

As we can see below, managers could also activate their wildcard to bring in Luton players for their double Gameweek and Newcastle players for their turn in good fixtures.

Gameweek 9+

Gameweek 9 could be a brilliant time to use the wildcard. Tottenham have a huge fixture swing – playing the likes of Fulham, Crystal Palace and Wolves. Many will be looking to stock up on their assets ahead of this run.

Aston Villa are another side who have a positive change to their schedule. They come up against West Ham, Luton, Nottingham Forest and Fulham in the period below.

Newcastle and Liverpool have a fixture swing against some lesser teams. The most significant factor to consider here is Mohamed Salah (£12.5m). The Egyptian could take some major team surgery to bring in and the Wildcard would allow exactly that.

Fixtures for both Chelsea and Manchester City turn sour and many will have heavy investment in their assets. It could take a major team shakeup to get rid of some of them from our squads.

Gameweek 12+

Some managers could even wait until Gameweek 12 if they can navigate the fixtures in Gameweek 9+ with transfers.

As we can see several teams sit atop of the ticker between Gameweek 12 and 16. One of those teams is Brighton who face Sheffield United, Nottingham Forest and Burnley. Many would have sold their assets during tough fixtures so without the Wildcard it could be tough to bring them back in.

West Ham also have a positive fixture swing as they come up against the likes of Nottingham Forest, Burnley, Crystal Palace and Fulham.

Crystal Palace could also be of interest during this period as they face teams like Everton, Luton and Bournemouth.

One of the most significant swings come for Arsenal. The Gooners play Burnley, Wolves, Luton and Aston Villa. The same could be said for Manchester United who have some nice games against Luton, Everton and Bournemouth.
