One of the key skills for an FPL manager is spotting the players who have potentially been priced too low in the game. These players could be the best potential FPL bargains of the season and investing in them early can bring managers a real advantage. Here we pick out five players who could be potential bargains for the 2023/24 FPL season.

FPL bargains come in all shapes and sizes. Some come in the form of the £4.0m playing defenders. These assets can bring points off of the bench when required and enable managers to build strong first XI’s. However, FPL bargains can also come in the form of players that you would want to start every single week.

During the 22/23 season Marcus Rashford was one of the biggest bargains. The midfielder started the season at just £6.5m and in the campaign returned 205 points in 32 starts. This total was only bettered by Mo Salah (£12.5) and Martin Odegaard (£8.5m) of the midfielders and they both started five matches more than the United man. At his price point Rashford was a complete bargain, highlighted by his £2.5m price rise to £9.0m for the new season. Finding the best potential FPL bargains for 23/24, like with Rashford in 22/23, is likely to be key to a managers season.

Darwin Nunez

Darwin Nunez (£7.5m) had a difficult first season in the Premier League with Liverpool. The forward made just 19 starts and scored nine goals and registered five assists. Darwin’s first season in the Premier League was marred by injury. The lack of regular starts as well as a lack of attacking returns means that he has had a price drop in FPL.

Whilst Nunez’ returns may not inspire confidence in FPL managers his underlying stats do look promising. The forward had 84 attempts on goal during the 2022/23 season, only five forwards in the game had more. Therefore if Darwin can settle in the league and make regular starts there should be plenty of potential for attacking returns.

In addition Darwin has historical faired better in his second season at clubs. In his second season with Benfica he scored 26 goals in 28 league games. He was the top scorer in the Primeira Liga that season. If he becomes Liverpool’s first choice starting forward he could make a mockery of his £7.5m price tag.

Bryan Mbeumo

Ivan Toney (£8.0m) is currently serving a ban from English football, this could bode well for Bryan Mbeumo (£6.5m) in FPL. In the absence of Toney at the end of the 22/23 season Mbeumo was on penalties for Brentford giving him an additional route to points for FPL managers.

He has also had the benefit of a position change in FPL. He was listed as a forward in the game in the 22/23 season and he is now a midfielder. This comes with a lot of additional benefits in FPL including additional points for goals as well as clean sheets. Mbeumo registered nine goals and nine assists last season. He managed 71 attempts on goal last season which was more than the likes of Kevin De Bruyne (£10.5m), Phil Foden (£7.5m) and Dejan Kulusevski (£7.0m).

Mbeumo’s £6.5m price tag will likely make him a popular pick for FPL managers. He could be a gift of an asset if he shoulders the responsibility for goals at Brentford in Toney’s absence.

Pedro Porro

The Spurs defender is priced at just £5.0m in the game this year which could be really exciting under new manager Ange Postecoglou.

Porro made 13 starts last season and registered six attacking returns as well as two clean sheets. In Postecoglou’s attacking system Porro could be vital for the way that Spurs move quickly out of defence and create goal scoring opportunities. With a significant price drop of £3.0m, Bruno is now £0.5m cheaper than Rashford. With penalty responsibility as an additional route to points Bruno could be a bargain if he re-finds his old form in FPL.

Phil Foden

With De Bruyne a doubt for the start of the season as well as Ilkay Gundogan having left Man City, Phil Foden‘s (£7.5m) likelihood of starts seems promising. Investing in Man City is always a challenge for FPL managers with Pep regularly rotating his squad. However, if Foden gets regular starts in pre-season then he could be a potential bargain for FPL managers. Foden made 22 starts for City last season scoring 11 goals and returning seven assists on his way to 142 points.

Foden’s 18 attacking returns was in the top ten for midfielders last season. Foden had 46 attempts on goal last season which is more than both Riyad Mahrez (£7.5m) and Jack Grealish (£7.5m) who he is priced the same as for the new season.
