Best Players to Avoid in FPL

Last modified date

In this article we take a look at the best players to avoid in FPL. With a busy summer of changes, EURO 2024 and COPA America whilst also taking into the account the starting fixtures we take a look at players we should be leaving out of our teams early on.

Knowing the best players to avoid in FPL early on could be extremely beneficial for managers. Injuries, new signings, new managers, systematic changes, international competitions and fixtures are all factors we take into account to determine this.

Phil Foden

EURO 2024 was a busy one for a lot of different countries but more so for England. The Three Lions progressed all of the way to the final which meant some England stars featured in seven matches ahead of the new domestic season.

One of those players mentioned above was Phil Foden. The Manchester City start played seven matches in the EURO’s, whilst also amassing over 5000 minutes for club. Foden is yet to feature at all for Manchester City during pre-season which makes him an easy avoid for the new season.

Jean-Philippe Mateta

Crystal Palace were one of the most exciting sides to invest during the latter stages of last season. This may change at the beginning of the new campaign for several different reasons. One departure that will dampen the appeal of the frontline is that of Michael Olise to Bayern.

Whilst Olise was key for the Eagles last season Jean Philippe-Mateta was also crucial. His call-up to the Olympics and progression to the final means he won’t return to England until a week before Gameweek 1 and for that reason he could be an easy player to avoid.

Jarrod Bowen

Jarrod Bowen is another player who joined England in their fight to the EURO 2024 final. Although he featured just twice Bowen is yet to play any minutes at all during pre-season with West Ham and with around a week until the Premier League starts it isn’t looking good.

Another major issue making Bowen an avoid is his torrid early schedule. The Hammers face Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, Manchester City and Chelsea in their first five fixtures, some of the best defences in the Premier League.

Darwin Nunez

Liverpool have one of the best starting schedules in the Premier League. In fact, the Reds sit second highest on the Fantasy Football Scout Fixture Ticker with fixtures against Ipswich, Brentford, Manchester United, Nottingham Forest and Brentford.

The Liverpool fixtures make them investable for FPL managers but Darwin Nunez could be an issue. Nunez went deep into the recent COPA America tournament and he is yet to play any minutes during pre-season.

Wolves

Wolves usually offer up some brilliant value budget picks and that may not change this season. However, for the early stages of the new campaign their assets could be a very hard avoid.

The biggest issue Wolves have early on is their schedule. In fact, on the Fantasy Football Scout fixture ticker they sit rock bottom for the first six Gameweeks. Wolves come up against the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Newcastle, Aston Villa and Liverpool in that period and they arguably couldn’t get a more difficult start if they tried.
