Best players for Gameweek 21

The new round of Premier League is ahead. With that in mind and with the help of Fantasy Football Scout, we have dug into the data and plucked out some of best player versus team stats to reveal the best players for Gameweek 21.

Taking a look back at the head-to-head data to find some of the best players for Gameweek 21 could be really helpful to managers. Picking out assets who have great records against their upcoming opponent can help with transfers, captaincy and even chip strategy.

Note: You can find all of the best players in each position for the round ahead based on current data in our FPL Top Picks for Gameweek 21 article.

Kevin De Bruyne v Newcastle

Manchester City have a great chance to pick up three points this week. The current holders come into the game in great form after winning all five of their last matches in all competitions. They also face a Newcastle side who have been conceding some of the worst underlying defensive data in the league recently.

One player who could pick up points is Kevin De Bruyne (£10.2m). As we can see in the 10 matches he played against Newcastle between 2015-2021 he bagged a return in six of his games. In those same matches De Bruyne hit two goals and six assists.

Bruno Fernandes v Tottenham

Manchester United have been extremely inconsistent recently – losing to West Ham, Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth in the last six matches. The Reds will be hoping to turn their poor run around this week as they come up against Tottenham.

Tottenham, although tough on paper, have been conceding some concerning defensive stats. One player who may take advantage of that is Bruno Fernandes (£8.2m). We can see that Fernandes has a solid record against Tottenham. In the four matches he faced them between 2019-2021 he collected a return in three of his games.

Bukayo Saka v Crystal Palace

Arsenal come into Gameweek 21 needing to win after two losses on the bounce. They have a great chance of doing exactly that with their meeting against Crystal Palace. The Eagles have been poor recently and Arsenal’ standout attacking option has huge potential.

We can see a list of players who performed best against Crystal Palace last campaign. Amongst the players on that list is Bukayo Saka (£9m). Saka banked a huge 24 points against his upcoming opponent due to two goals and two assists.

Jarrod Bowen v Sheffield United

West Ham have been excellent this season so will have huge confidence going into their match ahead. Sheffield United await the Hammers, a team that rank in the worst two defences in the league overall. West Ham are heavy favourites to win the game and their main man could have bags of potential.

Jarrod Bowen (£8.1m) has spearheaded the West Ham form this campaign. But, we can also see that he has a very strong record against promoted clubs. In the 11 meetings he has had with them Bowen racked up at least one return in seven. What is even more impressive is that Bowen notched up double-digit returns in four of his last five games against promoted sides. Potential investors will be hoping to hear positive news in regards to his cup injury this week.

Trent Alexander-Arnold v Bournemouth

Another team who could do well this week is Liverpool. The Reds remain unbeaten in their last five matches in all competitions so confidence will be high. Bournemouth lay ahead who although have been in brilliant scoring form could fall short this week.

Liverpool defenders may find it tough in Gameweek 21 but Trent Alexander-Arnold (£8.5m) shows he could have potential against the Cherries. As we can see last season Trent hit a huge 19 points against Bournemouth. His points came from one goal, one assist and one clean sheet.
