Best picks from Watford for Double Gameweek 28
Since Roy Hodgson took over at Watford half way through Gameweek 23, the Hornets have kept three clean sheets. Before Hodgson’s arrival Watford hadn’t kept a clean sheet all season. Is now the time to invest in the Watford defence, or do the forward thinking players still offer better FPL options for Double Gameweek 28?
Watford sit 19th in the Premier League table and their difficult season has meant that many FPL managers have avoided their assets. However, with a pair of fixtures against Arsenal and Wolves in Gameweek 28 could they offer some value for money? Whilst they have only scored two goals since Hodgson’s appointment, only Burnley have kept more clean sheets than Watford in that time.
Underlying Stats
Watford’s three clean sheets in the last five matches may be second in the league, however they have also conceded 10 goals in the same period. These ten goals is the second most conceded in the League, with only Leeds having conceded more.
Watford have scored 25 goals over the course of the season. Only three teams have scored less goals over the course of the season to date.
Emmanuel Dennis is Watford’s top scoring FPL player this season having registered 109 FPL points. Strike partner Josh King is second with 77 points. Of the forwards, only West Ham’s Michail Antonio has returned more points than Dennis this season.
Dennis has registered nine goals and six assists, in comparison to five goals and four assists for King. No forward has returned more goals than Dennis and his total is level with Cristiano Ronaldo and Jamie Vardy.
Ismaila Sarr has played in each of the last four Premier League fixtures for Watford. Since his return from AFCON and injury he has returned one clean sheet. His return to the starting XI has improved the creativity and attacking play at Watford and therefore could be a consideration for managers. Sarr did however, pick up a knock during Gameweek 27. Therefore managers considering investing in the midfielder should wait for Hodgson’s press conference.
Ownership for Double Gameweek
Only two Watford players, Dennis and goalkeeper Foster have over 10% ownership. This means that Watford assets are real differentials. Only seven Hornet’s have ownership of over 1%.
However, Fosters ownership in the top 10k is significantly higher. This means that the Watford shot stopper is popular amongst the best players in the game currently. Although for many managers Foster is likely to be managers second Goalkeeper. This could mean that he offers FPL managers the opportunity to play their Bench Boost chip if they also own another Double Gameweek goalkeeper.
