Underlying Stats
The attack
Villa’s attacking appeal has improved massively as a result of the opening fixture of Gameweek 36s win over Burnley. The three goals Villa scored points them in good form ahead of their second Double Gameweek in Gameweek 37. In addition, the underlying stats from the Villa attackers are positive.
Since Gameweek 12 Ollie Watkins is Villa’s top goal scorer. The forward has returned eight goals. Budget enabling midfielder Jacob Ramsey is second with five goals, however he is currently injured.
Watkins is also top for goal attempts at Villa in this period with 48. Of those goal attempts, 46 have come from inside the box and 11 were classified as big chances.
Watkins is also top for penalty area touches with 125. This is double that of any other Villa player in the same period.
John McGinn is top for chances created across the Villa team since Gameweek 12. The midfielder has created 32 chances. Midfielder Emi Buendia is second with 27. January signing Philippe Coutinho is third with 20 chances created. Coutinho however, missed the first game of Gameweek 36.
The defence
Matt Cash is the most attacking of the Aston Villa defenders. Cash is second across the Villa team for passes received in the final third. Only Watkins has had more.
Cash has put in 57 crosses since Gameweek 12, only Lucas Digne and McGInn have supplied more. He also ranks sixth for threat amongst defenders in the influence, creativity and threat (ICT) index.
Ownership ahead of Double Gameweek 37
Philippe Coutinho is the most heavily owned FPL asset at Villa. He is currently owned by 12.2% of the game. Emi Martinez, Cash and Watkins are the only other FPL asset at Aston Villa to be owned by over 10% of the game. They are in 11.6%, 11.4% and 11.1% of teams respectively.
Jacob Ramsey was the most popular option in the top 10k ahead of Gameweek 36. However the midfielders injury means that he was heavily sold ahead of the deadline. Coutinho, Cash and Watkins are now the most heavily owned Villa picks in the Top 10k.
Watkins ownership in the Top 10k has risen from 8.5% to 20.56% in the last week.
