Best picks from Villa for Double Gameweek 36
Villa play twice in Double Gameweek 36. We take a look at their underlying stats and investigate the ownership percentages for the Aston Villa players. Ahead of matches against Burnley and Liverpool, we assess the best investment options from the Villans.
With a nice run of fixtures Aston Villa are a key target for FPL managers. The Villans have a wealth of potential options for FPL managers to invest in.
All the stats in this article courtesy of the Fantasy Football Scout members area. The stats are from Gameweek 12 when Steven Gerrard arrived to Gameweek 34.
Underlying Stats
The attack
Villa have scored just two goals in the last five Gameweeks. This lowers the appeal of the Villa attacking options for FPL managers ahead of their Double Gameweeks. This is especially true when you compare the other attacking options from clubs that also play twice in Gameweek 36. However, the underlying stats from the Villa attackers are positive.
Since Gameweek 12 Ollie Watkins is Villa’s top goal scorer. The forward has returned six goals. Budget enabling midfielder Jacob Ramsey is second with five goals.
Watkins is also top for goal attempts at Villa in this period with 39. Of those goal attempts, 37 have come from inside the box and 10 were classified as big chances.
Watkins is also top for penalty area touches with 107. This is double that of any other Villa player in the same period.
John McGinn is top for chances created across the Villa team since Gameweek 12. The midfielder has created 29 chances. Midfielder Emi Buendia is second with 24. January signing Philippe Coutinho is third with 20 chances created. Coutinho however, is top for big chances created with five.
The defence
Matt Cash is the most attacking of the Aston Villa defenders. Cash is second across the Villa team for passes received in the final third. Only Watkins has had more.
Cash has put in 56 crosses since Gameweek 12. The Villa defender is also tied ninth across all FPL defenders for chances created with 19. He also ranks fourth for threat amongst defenders in the influence, creativity and threat (ICT) index.
Ownership ahead of Double Gameweek 36
Philippe Coutinho is the most heavily owned FPL asset at Villa. He is currently owned by 11.9% of the game. Emi Martinez is the only other FPL asset at Aston Villa to be owned by over 10% of the game. The goalkeeper is in 11.4% of FPL teams.
However, the statistics are very different in the top 10k of managers. Jacob Ramsey is the most popular option in the top 10k. The midfielder is owned by 17.13% of top 10k managers.
Forward Ollie Watkins is the second most popular pick at Villa. In the top 10k of managers he is owned by 8.5%. However, at under 10% owned he is still a great differential.
Ramsey and Watkin’s combined ownership in the top 10k is just 79 managers. This gives owning more than one Villa asset great differential potential.
Overall
Aston Villa’s fixtures look great ahead of the run-in. Whilst they haven’t been in good form in recent weeks the underlying stats show potential. Players like Cash, Ramsey and Coutinho could be good investments for FPL managers.
