Best Midfielders to Start the Season with in FPL

Last modified date

In this article we take a look at the best midfielders to start the season with in FPL. With the help of the Fantasy Football Scout members area we take a look at the early fixtures and take into account the stats to pick out the best in midfield.

Highlighting the best midfielders to start the season with in FPL could be as crucial as looking at any other position. As the 24/25 season approaches it’s important that we shortlist the best in midfield so we are ready for the campaign.

Mohamed Salah

Liverpool may not be as convincing as they have been in the past in contrast to more recently but they are still sustaining some brilliant attacking numbers.

When compared to every other side last season the Reds ranked amongst the best two for metrics including total attempts on goal, total shots in the box, big chances total and total shots on target.

Liverpool rank second on the Fantasy Football Scout fixture ticker in the first six Gameweeks. They face the likes of newly promoted Ipswich, Brentford and Manchester United who ranked as two of the worst sides in the league for total shots conceded last season and Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth.

There is one clear standout option in the Liverpool side and that is of course Mohamed Salah (£12.5m). The Liverpool penalty taker has been consistent in his output for some years now and that didn’t change last season – racking up 18 goals and 10 assists in just 32 matches.

Eberechi Eze

Crystal Palace appeared to be in a rut for some time last season until Oliver Glasner took over. His effect on the side was instant and the Eagles ended their 23/24 campaign with six wins in seven matches and 21 goals scored.

There is expectation amongst fans that the same form highlighted above could continue into the new campaign, especially now Glasner has had even more time with the squad.

It isn’t just recent form contributing to Crystal Palace’ recent appeal, it’s their first six fixtures. In fact, according to the fixture ticker they sit third best overall.

Both fixture and form appear good for Crystal Palace and the only thing missing is a player to take advantage of that. Eberechi Eze (£7.5m) looks set to be that player.

During the latter stages of last season Eze produced an impressive five goals and two assists in just six matches. As well as this Eze also has penalty duty to boost his potential avenue to points.

Bruno Fernandes

Manchester United need a clean slate as much as any other side. The Reds have been bombarded with negative attention for some years now and a lot of that is justified.

However, with new signings and players returning from injury things could be finally looking up. We also have to remember that they can be a threat, their FA Cup final win against Manchester City is a good example of that.

Prior to the final above Manchester United also bagged at least two goals in a huge seven of their 10 matches. This is another indication of how effective they can be offensively.

The fixtures above also suggest that there could be potential for a player like Bruno Fernandes (£8.5m). Fernandes scored 10 goals and registered eight assists last campaign, showing season after season that he can both score and create.

As well as open play potential Fernandes offers other routes to points, taking both free-kicks and penalties.

Cole Palmer

Cole Palmer’s (£10.5m) price-tag speaks volumes about his previous season, especially when highlighting the fact he has been given the biggest price rise in FPL history.

The highest scoring player in FPL last season racked up a whopping 22 goals and 11 assists in just 34 matches for Chelsea in 23/24. There isn’t much suggesting his form will slow down in the new campaign either.

Palmer may find it difficult against former club Manchester City in Gameweek 1. However, after that he then comes up against the likes of Wolves, Crystal Palace and Bournemouth.

As well having penalty duty Palmer also takes on a talismanic role within the Chelsea side. This means that a lot of the time most of the attacking play goes through or ends up with him, which is exactly what we want from our FPL assets.

With all of the above in mind, Palmer is an easy addition amongst the best midfielders to start the season with in FPL.

Anthony Gordon

The stats previously backed Newcastle as one of the best defences in the league to invest in. However, this has completely flipped and it’s now their frontline attracting many within the community.

Offensively Newcastle were one of the most reliable sides in the division towards the latter end of last season. The Magpies racked up a cool 26 goals in their final 10 matches, with 21 of those goals coming in just five different games.

The Newcastle attack has proven to be one of the most explosive in recent times and many expect that to continue into the new season. With a game against newly promoted Southampton in the first round this could come to fruition.

Newcastle have two standout attackers and Anthony Gordon (£7.5m) is one of them. Gordon played a major part in a bulk of his sides end of season goal run – creating four assists and netting twice in his last six matches.
