Best Midfielders to Buy for Gameweek 21 and Onwards in FPL
In this article we take a look through some of the best midfielders to buy for Gameweek 21 and onwards. To do this we head over to the Fantasy Football Scout members area where we utilise their fixture ticker and underlying stats.
Looking at the best midfielders to buy for Gameweek 21 and onwards in FPL can be extremely beneficial for fantasy managers. The departure of Mohamed Salah and Son Heung-Min, two of the most consistent assets in the game has created a hole in our teams but also an opportunity to replace them as well.
Fixtures
As we can see the fixture ticker orders the teams at the top with the easiest schedule and teams at the bottom with the toughest schedule.
Pascal Groß
Brighton rank first on the fixture ticker and play matches against Wolves, Luton, Crystal Palace, Tottenham, Sheffield United and Everton, some of the worst defences in the league this season. With that comes a great opportunity for a Brighton attacker to do well.
The Seagulls are having a mixed season so far as they balance both domestic and European Football. That may be the case but they still rank in the top six teams for most of the underlying attacking metrics. Brighton also sit second best in the division for total shots on target so far.
Rotation may be rife in the Brighton team. However, as we can see below Pascal Groß (£6.4m) has started more matches and played more minutes than any other Brighton player this season
Gametime and minutes are of course important but Pascal Groß also offers plenty of promise. The German international sits as his teams highest scoring player in FPL so far this campaign. That is mostly due to his three goals and six assists. When compared to all players in the league Pascal Groß also ranks fourth best in the last six Gameweeks for non-penalty expected goal involvement.
Phil Foden
Manchester City rank eighth on the ticker but they play some very poor recent defences in their run ahead. The champions have meetings with Newcastle, Burnley, Brentford, Everton, Chelsea and Bournemouth next up.
Although not as dominant as they usually are Manchester City still sit third and just five points off the top spot with a game in hand left to play. In terms of their offensive data they rank the best this season for goals scored and second best for minutes per chance.
Phil Foden (£7.8m) has become an integral part of the Manchester City attack. As we can see below, in terms of gametime Foden sits third highest when compared to every other teammate for starts and minutes played.
When focusing on his attacking potential Foden also ranks as the third best in his side for non-penalty expected goal involvement and third best for goals and assists behind Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland with 11. His recent output is also very strong – racking up 25 points in his last three matches due to three assists and one goal.
Jarrod Bowen
West Ham seem to be in a great run of form overall which has resulted in them sitting sixth. The Hammers have a great opportunity to maintain that run with games against Sheffield United, Bournemouth, Manchester United, Arsenal, Nottingham Forest and Brentford ahead.
West Ham don’t regularly maintain some of the best attacking data in the league but when they get chances they are the best at converting them. In fact, we can see exactly that in the fact they rank the best for shot accuracy.
The most effective attacker in the West Ham frontline is Jarrod Bowen (£8m) who has been keeping up with some of the best players in the league this season. We can see that Bowen makes it into the best six players for goals and assists so far with 13.
When looking at his most recent form Bowen managed at least one return in his last six matches.
Richarlison
Tottenham are another side in a strong run of form – winning four of their last five matches and scoring between 2-4 goals in all of the same games. They are also maintaining some great offensive stats as well – ranking in the top four teams for goals scored, total attempts on goal, shots in the box and shots on target.
The fixtures Tottenham have ahead look great from an attacking sense. They face games against the likes of Manchester United, Brentford, Everton, Brighton, Wolves and Chelsea in their matches ahead.
Investing in the Tottenham front line could be hugely rewarding and leading that line is Richarlison (£6.9m). The Brazilian has been exceptional as of late in regards to FPL. As we see in the last six Gameweeks only Mohamed Salah edges Richarlison for points.
Other great options
If you still do not own the likes of Arsenal’ Bukayo Saka (£9m) and Chelsea Cole Palmer (£5.6m) then both should be near the top of your midfielder shortlists.
Manchester United sit third on the fixture ticker so Alejandro Garnacho (£4.8m) could be an excellent value for money pick.
Others could look to one of the most efficient attacks in the league for another nicely priced asset in Leon Bailey (£5.7m) who has become a mainstay in the frontline.
Some could even be hoping Liverpool attacker Diogo Jota (£7.7m) enjoys a fresh run of minutes with Mohamed Salah at AFCON.
